  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I am a native speaker of Polish so I speak it fluently. Besides that, I have a solid linguistic training and cultural knowledge of Polish which I am happy to share with you at our courses. My teaching method is based on language coaching, translation approach and thought-provoking conversations, so during our classes 'you' matter. It's important to me to know how do you experience your learning process so we can communicate on it throughout our lessons.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

I am a big fan of Wisława Szymborska; she was a well-known Polish poet and a great thinker. Her poetry, to me, is an excellent example of beauty and light humour of Polish language. She is an important symbol of Polish culture and she was awarded the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1996. Her poetry has been translated into 42 languages, including English, so you can enjoy her poems too!
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

One of the Polish words that might be untranslatable fully into English is 'Błogość'. This word expresses the sense of calmness, peaceful blisfullness, delight and experiencing pleasure all at the same time. It's like feeling warm sunbeams on your face during a calm summer day. What you experience then is exactly what 'Błogość' is.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Polish remembers me of my origins. I am fluent in five languages (Polish, English, Italian, French, and Spanish) and have lived abroad extensively. The Polish language brings me to my Inner 'Home' in a way. It reminds me that no matter how far I travel, I'm always close to my roots, because I carry them within me. That's the significance of the Polish language to me. I believe it can offer a similar sense of connection to anyone looking to communicate with their Polish family members or integrate further into the culture.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The most difficult thing in learning Polish might be the cases, verb aspects, and the extensive vocabulary of synonyms and antonyms. However, these difficulties can be overcome with a methodical, step-by-step, practical approach (with just the necessary theory), patience, and a good language mentor. I will be more than happy to help you in this process.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

When it comes to learning Polish, I remember that in primary school we practiced for several years the famous declination (cases) of the Polish language, so please, don't be hard on yourself while learning it. On the other hand, if you would think of another language with cases, such as German, and how many people have actually managed to learn it successfully, you can see that similarly with Polish you can do it.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

In the case of the Polish language, being born in Warsaw and living in Poland was obviosuly the greatest contribution to my fluency in it, as I am a Polish native speaker. As for other languages like English, Spanish, French, and Italian, the opportunity to interact with native speakers in real-life situations by living in countries where these languages are spoken significantly enhanced my language skills. In each of these experiences, having prior knowledge and language training was crucial for getting the most out of the so-called 'total immersion' of living in these countries and participating in daily interaction in these languages. Good language courses, where you are eager to learn, are essential preparation and contribute to effectively practicing the language in a native environment.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

I am a Superprof in language due to my studies (Master in Applied Linguistics, Translation and Teaching ), solid experience in teaching people of various nationalities in different language combinations (5), as well as other professional linguistic experience. Also, being a learner of foreign languages myself, I understand both sides of the process: not only teaching the language but also learning it. Thanks to that, I am aware of challenges you may encounter and I am happy to guide you on how to overcome them, get the results and find joy in the language-learning journey.
