About Antonia
Both my parents are linguists, so I have been surrounded by foreign languages my entire life, my mother being a German and French teacher. I spent my post A-level gap year on a 9 month language course in Montpellier, finishing with a C1 level and obtaining the DALF qualification. Having done peer tutoring during sixth form (student mental health support) I take a calm and non-judgemental approach. As well as this, when helping family and friends with their French, I have emphasised the use of set phrases that use more complex structures as well as focusing on key grammar structures that are often left out of school learning despite their frequency. I also have experience in French debating and public speaking from my language course and A-level, so I am able to discuss potentially more complex topics should these arise.

I want to make language learning enjoyable and engaging, as this is often not the experience many students have. The student always comes first, so I will always try to adapt my teaching method to what the student prefers, e.g: if they are just learning for an exam, then I will prioritise teaching them the relevant exam techniques and key phrases. I got a 9 in French GCSE (AQA), an A in French A-level (Edexcel) and obtained the Diploma in Advanced French (DALF) at a C1 level. I teach A1-A2 level French (primary school and GCSE level) to all ages. The lessons are maximum an hour, unless it is deemed absolutely necessary for it to be longer, i.e. an exam is coming up. The structure that I learnt best from that I use for my students is starting with any questions they may have in order to iron out any issues, both big and small. I provide detailed work/information sheets that I used myself to learn French, so am confident in their effectiveness.
