About Elle
I received all 9s at GCSE and the top grade in Additional Mathematics, hence am familiar with what it takes to succeed academically at GCSE level.
More importantly and perhaps more relevant to you, I studied Additional Maths outside of school by reading textbooks and working through practice problems; my school did not offer the program and I (now wanting to major in Maths) was not happy! It was a long process, and I quickly learned the importance of self motivation and hard work as well as knowing when to ask for help. This also gave me invaluable experience approaching a syllabus outside of a classroom setting. There is a lot to be said for good note taking and regularly trying problems!
I received an academic scholarship to attend Magdalen College School, where I am currently studying Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Here, I am chair of Debate Club as well as a vice-chair of Model United Nations (we are set to compete in New York next year!). I also run a Mathematics Lecture Society which is set to properly kick off in September!

In general I offer roughly an hour long session, although I find that the optimal length of a class varies from pupil to pupil. Some students benefit from a longer session in which I can help them through lots of questions, while others find it more constructive to go off and work through problems alone and then let know me via email or in our next session if they had any struggles.
In the first session we could discuss the duration of the sessions, as well as establish what you are hoping to cover. Lessons often fall one of the following categories:
1. Review of known GCSE Maths/Ad Maths material in preparation for exams or for the upcoming academic year
2. Teaching of GCSE Maths/ Ad Maths material before it is taught in class in order to prepare the student and ensure good results in end of term tests
3. Introduction to A-level topics after or during GCSE years in order to get a jump start on the start of 6th Form.
3. Guided extracurricular interest in maths, where we would cover topics not typically included on Mathematics specifications such as Set Theory, Group Theory and Logic.
Based on this discussion, we would make a plan for how many sessions the student would want/require.
In my lessons, I try to encourage a dialogue between the student and myself. I find that Maths can seem unapproachable and dull if learned through lecturing and note taking, so I often try to intersperse questions throughout the lessons. Additionally, I make an effort to show students where the ideas and formulas are derived from rather than just presenting them as facts. In my experience this helps information stick in students's heads!
I am more than happy to assign work outside of lessons, but understand that many students are too busy to take on more work than they currently have.
Additionally I can offer a reading least of Mathematics books (both relevant to GCSE and not).
