About Lisa
Greetings! I have been playing piano and organ for decades and started teaching piano while playing duets with my mother (correcting her mistakes). I am a piano and organ teacher and accompanist in the Poughkeepsie NY area. In addition to teaching piano, I am the music director and organist at a large Catholic church. My professional degrees, Master's and Bachelor’s, are in Music Education and Organ Performance. I have taught music in public and private schools. Longevity in teaching is not always an indicator of talent for teaching. Yes, I have been for decades, but you can’t always tell a good teacher from a bad one by years. Some poor teachers have been teaching poorly for decades. Several of my students have gone on to become piano teachers themselves, won state level awards, and perform well at local competitions (NYSSMA in NY). Although remote music lessons are more difficult than in person, it is a great opportunity to reach students who are motivated to learn a classical technique. This means reading music, understanding chord structures and the theory that underlines each piece, as well as correct technique and hand position. I have unique ways of allowing all students, including adults, to learn to play.

I teach classical piano and organ, along with music theory. All my lessons include learning the theory behind what is playing, as well as proper technique and hand position. If you are looking for someone to teach you how to play “by ear,” improvise, or read a lead sheet to play in a band, I am not the teacher for you. If you want to learn Mozart sonatas, Bach Inventions, and Rachmaninoff preludes, please come for lessons with me.

Details
The listings on this site are for hour lessons, but I more often teach half-hour lessons at $35/lesson. I do try to stick to a half hour, but we’re done when we’re finished, making my half-hour lessons more like 35-40 minutes.
