Find out more about Thomas

• 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

  1) I developed my passion from my Dad. He had guitars from when I was very small and got me one when I was in Year 4. I did promptly give it up after realising it would take a great deal of work. But I picked music back up in Year 9 due to getting into rock/metal music and I’ve never looked back since.

• 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

  2) Anyone who knows me knows I’m a humongous Trivium fan, I have listened to them since I got into metal and they are my go to band. I also have to give a shoutout to Nickelback as my current main addiction.

• 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

  3) A right-hand strength and endurance course. When it comes to metal and rock guitar, your right hand is what can separate the good from the best. It is also so hard to train as you need to be consistent and always pushing yourself harder, even a slight slip can put you back weeks.

• 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

  4) The voice, due to its nuance to every person. Everyone has their own voice and it is incredibly hard to be confident in yours and consistent.

• 5) What are your keys to success?

  5) Courage, determination and kindness. Courage gets you where you need, determination keeps you there and kindness takes you where you could never imagine.

• 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

  6) Josh Middleton, Matt Healy and James Hetfield. All incredible vocalists, guitarists and frontmen. They are the 3 musicians that, without them, I wouldn't be doing what I’m doing today. James was my gateway into music, Matt drove me to take it up as a career and Josh pushed me to be the best I possibly can be.

• 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

  7) I remember my A-Level music teacher asking me to pick a song for him to listen to and to demonstrate how to evaluate a song. I picked Take Your Pick by Ice Nine Kills, which for anyone who knows it, knows it’s a brutal song. He took it fully in his stride with a smile on his face. Not even questioning my choice. It’s such a simple moment but it inspired me to be passionate about what I love and be open to any music or anything that comes my way. Too many people don’t feel they can be truly passionate about what they love, and I wish more where.

• 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

  8) My burning passion to give everyone the chance to love and appreciate music alongside the patience to find you the pace and methods to succeed. I always do best by my students and its something I will always pride myself on.
