About Janelle
I am an experienced, senior-level graphic designer who has worked professionally in various settings: in-house marketing agency at a non-profit healthcare company, fast-paced award-winning ad agency, and years of freelance work with clients ranging from non-profits, small businesses and wellness practitioners to musicians, artists and community organizers. I am well-versed in print and digital communications as well as print production. I attended art school in Massachusetts in the 90's to learn graphic design and other forms of creative media: metalsmithing and photography. I spent 10 years working as a production assistant at a glass studio in NH, and continue to throw myself into creative projects of all sorts! I currently have an art studio adjacent to a metals studio and art gallery, where I work on mixed media art, printmaking, screen printing and fiber arts projects. In my spare time I love to cook, sing, do yoga and hike with my dog, and I have a passionate interest in gardening and permaculture. I have always had a collaborative, creative, hard-working and positive attitude (that's a must!) I am inspired constantly by nature and culture, traveling and helping to sustain open-minded, higher-conscious, creative communities.

My teaching style is upbeat, interactive, and tailored to each student's unique needs and learning pace. Lessons are for middle to high school-aged young artists or anyone curious about graphic design! I foster a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable exploring their creativity. My lessons are structured yet flexible, ensuring that foundational skills are solid while also allowing room for personal expression and exploration.
What to Expect:
Introduction to Adobe Creative Software:
Adobe Photoshop - Basics of photo editing, retouching, using PS creative and production tools such as selection and painting tools, artboards and the animation panel.
Adobe Illustrator - Vector graphics, logo design, and illustration.
Adobe InDesign - Layout design for print and digital publications.
Project-Based Learning:
Simple Projects - Start with easy, guided projects such as creating a basic logo, designing a flyer, or editing a photo.
Intermediate Projects - As skills develop, we’ll tackle more complex tasks like designing a brand identity, creating posters, or developing social media graphics.
Customized Curriculum:
- Each lesson is customized to match the student's interests and skill level. Whether they are beginners or have some experience, the curriculum will evolve with their progress.
- I incorporate real-world examples and industry-standard practices to ensure students gain practical, applicable skills.
Mentorship and Feedback:
- I offer constructive feedback and guidance, helping students refine their work, develop a keen eye for design and speak confidently about their process.
- Students will also learn the importance of critique and how to use feedback to improve their designs.
