About Nimo
I grew up in the hills of Byron Bay and attended a small music-focused school where guitar was a compulsory part of the curriculum. My father is a record producer and lifelong rock guitarist, so music and the instrument were always around me from an early age.
For most of my early playing life I was self-taught and learned by ear, not really understanding the importance of music theory until I began studying formally. Once I did, it completely opened up the instrument for me and made playing feel far more fluid and intuitive. I understand what it’s like to play without that knowledge, and also how much it can unlock once it clicks.
I’m now 25 and based in Melbourne, gigging regularly with 8+ bands across jazz, RnB, hip hop and post-punk projects.

I take a structured but flexible approach to teaching, focusing on helping students understand the fundamentals of music theory and how to apply them directly on the guitar. Rather than just memorising shapes or songs, I aim to show how the fretboard connects through scales, chords and rhythm.
A big part of my lessons is helping students develop their own sound and direction, whether that’s improvisation, songwriting, or learning specific material they’re into.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes, but I can adjust depending on the student.
I hold a Bachelor of Music (Jazz and Improvisation) from the Victorian College of the Arts and have several years of teaching experience in schools, along with 30+ private students across different ages and levels.
While my background is in jazz and improvisation, I teach all styles and work with beginners through to advanced players.
