PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY______________________________________
A long=time Professional Member of the Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario, Jay Sobel is known as a human-centric problem solver, an innovative designer, and a design educator.
With diverse experience in product research, design, manufacture and marketing through stints in Global Corporations, Small Businesses and Design Firms,
Jay has consistently demonstrated proven leadership skills in championing human factors concerns, defining product functionality, and creating an appropriate "look and feel" across product platforms in the telecommunications, defense and consumer product industries. Development ventures in these fields have led to the creation of products and systems that allow people to communicate reliably, to live more securely, to care for their pets, and to safely enjoy play.
Collaboration with pertinent stake holders in both domestic and international product ventures has led to a personal portfolio of 29 granted patents and 34 design related awards. Jay has been feted for “Design Innovation” by the World Design Organization and IBM (2020); the Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario (2012); the Industrial Designers Society of America and Business Week Magazine (Gold IDEA Award 2001, Silver IDEA Award 1997, Silver IDEA Award 1991). He was also recognized by Irene Alegre in her book “Star Product Designers: Prototypes, Products, and Sketches from the World’s Top Designers”; 2013: Harper Design and Loft Publications.
Jay has significant experience in Design Education, Design Management, Intellectual Property Management, People and Project Management, Coaching and Mentoring, and Teamwork and Collaboration.

You are never too young or too old to learn how to draw and develop a portfolio of creative work that might be used for admission to an art or design program of your choice. I offer three hour classes taught over the internet. I have previously taught Ontario Grade 12 Art to international students; and first year sketching and drawing classes to first year art fundamental and design students at both Centennial and Sheridan Colleges.
