About Kelley
I am a full-time professional oboist with over a decade of experience with orchestral playing, collegiate teaching, studio recording, reed making instruction, audition preparation & success, & more. I can help you excel in any of these areas through instruction on the oboe, as well as learning how to optimize your practice time through organization, creativity, and learning how to enjoy the process. I have experience teaching beginners all the way through college. Whether you are just starting out, or wondering how to prepare an excerpt list for college auditions, festivals, or jobs, I have the experience to help you gain confidence & competency.
My approach to teaching is holistic, patient, warm, & encouraging. I will meet you where you are at & help you find the best way forward to help you improve & meet your goals. Together, we will assess your ability levels, find appropriate method books & repertoire for your studies, & assign specific exercises, etudes, & pieces for you to practice & improve on.
Oboe can also be a bit tricky if you do not have a way to diagnose instrument/reed issues. I can help you find resources like handmade reeds, tools to have on hand for minor repairs/maintenance, online resources for additional help, & more. I'd love to help you move forward on your path to learning the oboe!
