About Matthew
I am a former violinist of Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra for 4 years, with 1 year acting as principal violinist. I was also a freelance violinist in City Chamber Orchestra Hong Kong. While I was studying for my Bachelor degree in music, I was Principal 2nd Violin in Asian Youth Orchestra in 2014 Tour. I have 10+ years experience in teaching all levels of students, from 3 to 30 years old. After all those years of performing and teaching, I realise not many students or even tutors know the right way to practice violin. It is my goal to influence my students by showing them "shortcut" of practising. Practice is not just about repetitive work. If you know how to practice, it can be much easier and faster to get to the level you always desire.

DO YOU WANT TO LEARN & IMPROVE YOUR SKILL 2 TIMES FASTER? OR EVEN 3 TIMES??? I CAN SHOW YOU THE WAY! I will craft your own practice based on your situation, everyone is different. Who am I? I am a former violinist of Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra for 4 years, I have 10+ years experience in teaching all levels of students, from 3 to 30 years old. What is your philosophy on teaching music? - Efficiency & Simplicity. Learning violin should be easy to understand. I will give you an easy few step approach, even advanced technique. - Not just “How to play”, but also “How to practice”. The way you practice is the key to successful performance. - Every student is different. I will structure your exercise for you as a “shortcut” to reach your higher level. Who is suitable to take your lesson? I teach a wide range of students, of different ages, different goals. No matter if: - you have a child and you want him/her to be inspired by music - you are a young teenage musician wanting to expand your musical idea - you are struggling with your technical difficulties and you may need specific guidance - you are a college student who wants to take music as your professional career - you are just a violin lover and want to enjoy playing music together. How much is the tuition fee? £45 for 60 mins lesson if I travel to your place in the Manchester area. £40 if the student is travelling to me. £35 for lessons online. Which Level can you take your student to? I am ready to prepare my student to take any kind of exam, as I have experience bringing my students to pass ABRSM exam. Moreover, while we are not working for an exam, I will prepare you by strengthening your skill (fundamental technique, music appreciation etc.) so you can be ready for upcoming challenges in your future music career.

Perfect! I was very anxious to to get a tutor, but glad to have Matthew as a tutor. Incredibly easy going, with gentle and reassuring approach, with great use of analogies to explain techniques or musical elements, has put my uncertainty at ease. I am now looking forward for lessons and am very excited to practice and progress.

Perfect! Matthew helped my son pass his ABRSM stage 1 exam. He is very patient. He gives valuable constructive feedback and guidance in a very pleasant manner, so my son feels very comfortable asking questions. Matthew got excellent timekeeping along with great communication.
I have now extended our lessons so Matthew can continue to work with my son for the stage 2 exam.
