About Calum
I didn't grow up following the traditional route into musical theatre. I was born and raised in the beautiful Lake District in the north of England, and for most of my childhood my world revolved around football, not performing. I played as a goalkeeper in the Manchester City Academy and later went on to coach football professionally, experiences that taught me discipline, resilience, teamwork, and how to perform under pressure.
Music was always a huge part of my life, and I also play both piano and guitar, but it wasn't until later that I decided to pursue musical theatre professionally. When I started drama school, I quickly realised I had a lot of catching up to do. Years of shouting on football pitches had left me with significant vocal tension and unhealthy habits that affected my singing. I had to completely rebuild my technique from the ground up, learning how to use my voice efficiently, sustainably, and without tension.
That journey has shaped the way I teach today. I understand what it's like to feel behind, to work through technical challenges, and to question whether your voice can improve. Because I've experienced those obstacles myself, I know that with the right guidance, healthy technique, and consistent practice, real progress is possible.
My teaching is rooted in empathy as much as expertise. Whether you're a complete beginner, someone returning to singing, or an experienced performer looking to refine your technique, I aim to create a supportive environment where you can develop confidence, vocal freedom, and your own unique artistic voice.

Hi! I'm Calum McElroy and I'm a professional performer and vocal coach with experience across the West End, UK and Ireland touring productions, and internationally with some of the world's leading cruise lines, including Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. I am currently performing in We Will Rock You on Royal Caribbean performing as Galileo, where I perform demanding contemporary rock vocals while maintaining the vocal stamina and consistency required for a professional performance schedule and world tour.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and an MA in Musical Theatre from Associated Studios. My training, combined with years of professional performing experience, allows me to offer practical, industry-focused coaching that is rooted in both strong vocal technique and the realities of working as a professional performer.
I am passionate about helping singers build a healthy, reliable, and versatile voice. Whether you're completely new to singing or already training or working professionally, I tailor every lesson to your individual needs, goals, and learning style. I believe that every voice is unique, and my aim is to help you develop a strong technical foundation that allows you to sing with confidence, freedom, and consistency, while always prioritising vocal health.
As someone who performs professionally and comes from a non-traditional musical theatre background, I understand the demands placed on singers in auditions, rehearsals, and performances. I know what it takes to deliver consistently under pressure, and I enjoy sharing the techniques and skills that have helped me throughout my own career. My lessons combine technical development with practical performance coaching, ensuring that you not only sing well but also communicate confidently and authentically as a performer.

Alongside vocal coaching, I also enjoy helping students develop their musicianship. I aim to make theory approachable, practical, and directly relevant to the music you're working on.
As an optional add-on to your singing lessons, I now also offer professional filming in a dedicated setup equipped with high-quality lighting, backdrops, and filming equipment. (available again from January 2027)
