About Miles
I’m a singing tutor with 3+ years of experience specialising in vocal improvisation for jazz and blues singers. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a focus on Lieder and Art Song, which gives me a deep understanding of both classical and contemporary vocal technique. My teaching blends structured training with creative exploration to help singers find their unique improvisational voice. I work closely with students of all levels, from beginners building confidence to advanced singers refining their artistry. Lessons include scat singing, melodic embellishment, and navigating complex harmonic progressions. We dive into scale theory, chord relationships, and how to apply them intuitively in real-time performance. A strong ear is essential, so I incorporate targeted ear training in every session. Students learn not only how to sing over changes but how to feel them. My approach also emphasises vocal health, breath support, and expressive delivery. Whether you're preparing for the stage, the studio, or your own creative growth, I offer guidance that’s both technical and inspiring. Whether you're preparing for an audition or just starting your vocal journey, lessons are tailored to your specific needs and goals. We focus on developing healthy vocal habits, breath control, tone production, and range expansion. I also guide students in selecting the right repertoire that highlights their strengths and suits the audition or performance setting. For those facing nerves, we work on strategies to manage performance anxiety and build stage presence. I specialise in working with adult beginners and advanced teens, helping them gain confidence and deliver powerful, authentic performances. Ear training, rhythm work, and expressive phrasing are woven into each lesson. We also practise audition simulations and feedback sessions to prepare for real-world pressure. My goal is to create a supportive yet challenging space where students can grow artistically and technically. Every step of the process is focused on building consistency, control, and expressive freedom. With the right tools and mindset, you'll be ready to impress—and enjoy the music you make.
