About Rachel
Hi, my name is Rachel and I'm a classical singer based in London. I'm currently studying for a Master's in classical and operatic singing at the Royal College of Music and hold a first-class degree in Music from the University of Oxford. My singing experience is considerable, from opera to choral, to jazz, pop and musical theater. For a more extensive breakdown of my training and performance experience please see the bottom of this ad :) As a teacher, I have experience training both adults and children. Before university, I taught music at a primary school where I supported 1-1 singing lessons and ran several choirs. MY TEACHING STYLE... I always tailor my teaching to support the needs of my individual students - depending on your age, experience and learning goals (e.g. if it's your first time singing, or you're preparing for a solo or choir performance, an audition, or simply just keen to improve your singing ability) - we'll find an inspiring learning routine that works best for you. A TYPICAL CLASS WITH ME... In general, a typical lesson with me might look like: 30% - Warm up & technical work - Fun(!) warm up - focusing on connecting to your body and breath before waking up the voice - Vocal technique exercises - drills to improve your vocal agility, consistency, tone and stamina. 70% - Repertoire (aka let's work on singing the music you LOVE!) - Your lesson, your rules - I'm here to help you find more vocal ease and enjoyment in the songs you love so bring whatever you'd like to work on and we'll have a crack at it! I'm also happy to help you find songs in the style you love that will suit your voice and challenge you to improve - be it Broadway classics, songs in the charts, operatic arias or folk tunes! The first session is free, so feel free to book in to get a sense of what learning with me is like :) SO, WHY CHOOSE ME? - Knowledge - having sung professionally for 5+ years now and trained at two of the highest ranking institutions globally, I have a strong understanding of vocal technique. - Teaching acumen - I'm patient, but persistent. My goal is to find ways for you to grow in confidence and succeed. - Non-judgmental - I couldn't be a bigger advocate for singing for well-being, self-development and joy. You don't have to be "good", you just have to be enthusiastic :) - Empathy +well-being - beyond singing, I'm a keen yogi, runner and all-round creative. I believe singing lessons can be an amazing opportunity to connect with your body and your emotional self. Whether you're just starting out or returning to singing after some time away, I'm here to support that journey.
