About David
I have a PGCE from Cambridge University in KS2/3 English. Prior to to this, I gained a degree in English and Philosophy from Nottingham University (Ba Hons. 2002), taking a gap year teaching English in a Spanish primary school and another working in industry. I have over 15 years experience teaching English in schools and working as a tutor both in England and abroad, in Guatemala, Russia and Italy. I have taught English up to GCSE and A/S level in state schools. Having worked as an English Teacher and Head of English, I have a successful teach record of preparing students for 11+ examinations to secure entry to leading preparatory schools including Westminster and Latymer Upper School in London. I am also able to offer English tutoring to adult learners whatever their needs and EFL tutoring, being TEFL qualified.

I believe in making lessons enjoyable and stimulating with a strong but realistic element of challenge. I am able to draw on my considerable tutoring experience as well as advanced subject knowledge to identify strengths and weaknesses in learners and suitable next steps. I have developed many high quality resources and schemes of work over several years which can also be personalised to meet the need of individual students. Lessons often make use of diverse media such as music, art and newspapers. Praise is used to build students' confidence and enjoyment of English.
