About Esther

Hi! I’m Esther, a qualified Secondary Maths Teacher with QTS and over eight years of teaching and education experience. Alongside my main teaching work, I have also been tutoring Maths part-time for around two years, supporting students who need extra help, more confidence, or a clearer route towards their target grades.

I teach KS3, GCSE and AS Level Maths and am familiar with AQA, Edexcel and OCR. I work with students across a wide range of abilities, from rebuilding foundations to aiming for higher grades. Over the past two years, I have helped many students feel more confident in Maths and work towards their goals, with recent GCSE students achieving Grades 7 to 9.

I especially enjoy helping students who feel anxious or “stuck” with Maths. Seeing a student become more willing to have a go, tackle challenging questions, and realise “I can do this” is one of the most rewarding parts of tutoring for me.

My lessons are calm, structured and personalised. I focus on clear explanations, targeted practice and helping students make steady progress towards their goals.

About the lesson

Every student is different, so I don’t use the same lesson plan for everyone. I first take time to understand the student’s current level, learning needs, confidence, school topics and target grades. Where helpful, I use diagnostic questions, recent assessments or exam papers to identify knowledge gaps and common mistakes.

Based on this, I create a personalised tutoring plan with clear priorities and short-term goals. My tutoring is not only about fixing one difficult topic. I want students to build secure foundations, develop stronger mathematical thinking and form good habits when approaching problems, so they become more confident and independent over time.

For exam preparation, I also support students with time management, reading and analysing questions, choosing efficient methods, avoiding common errors and understanding how to secure marks. We use exam-style questions and past-paper practice to turn knowledge into exam performance.

After lessons, I provide feedback on what we covered, what went well and what still needs attention. I also use a progress tracker to review improvement over time and give periodic feedback on strengths, gaps and next steps.

My overall aim is to make Maths feel clearer, more manageable and less stressful, while helping students build the confidence and skills to tackle questions independently.
