  • Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?

Yes, I grew up learning and speaking Italian as I was born in Italy. While at school, I developed a passion for Italian grammar, which significantly improved my knowledge of the language.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

One emblematic representative of Italian culture is Marco Polo, the renowned Italian traveler. Born in Venice in the 13th century, Polo is celebrated for his extensive travels along the Silk Road to Asia and his detailed accounts of his journeys.Like Polo, who traveled around the world in his time, I too am engaging in global exploration, reflecting the same spirit of curiosity and adventure that is an integral part of Italian cultural history.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?

An Italian phrase I particularly like is "fare un pisolino," which means "to take a nap." This expression reflects the Italian tradition of enjoying a short, restful break during the day, often after lunch. It's a perfect example of the Italian appreciation for relaxation and taking time to recharge, contributing to a balanced and leisurely lifestyle.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Italian matters to me for several reasons. Firstly, it's deeply connected to my heritage, as I was born and raised in Italy. It allows me to maintain a strong connection with my roots and communicate with family and friends.

Additionally, Italian is a language rich in cultural and historical significance. I am also very proud to be able to teach this beautiful language and contribute to others' understanding and appreciation of it. It enriches my life and allows me to share the beauty of Italian culture with others.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

In general, the hardest part of learning Italian is mastering its grammar. My tailored classes are particularly useful in this regard, as they focus on addressing specific grammatical challenges and provide personalized practice to help overcome these difficulties.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

A memorable anecdote from my teaching experience involves a day when I took my young students from an Italian school in Sydney out for gelato. It was a special outing where they had the opportunity to practice ordering gelato in Italian. Seeing their excitement as they successfully used Italian phrases to make their selections was a very sweet surprise for them. It not only made the language come alive in a fun and practical way but also created a lasting impression of how enjoyable learning Italian can be.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

It might sound surprising, but I began to appreciate Italy and the Italian language even more after leaving Italy to come to Australia. Living abroad made me realize the depth of culture and history we have in Italy, and it deepened my pride in being Italian. This gives me immense pride, and I'm truly happy to introduce more people to "il Bel Paese."
