To teach students of the basics of music theory and how they are applied to create music. Keys, rhythm and beats, introductory sheet music, such as quarter notes, half notes, and rests, how notes and beats are related, pitch and tone. We will apply these lessons through the use of singing select songs. Students will also be taught to identify how musical vocals differ from other methods of oral communication, such as talking and shouting, and will learn to aurally differentiate between major and minor tones, along with the concepts of tempo and dynamics, learning when music gets faster or slower as well as softer or louder. Working with vocabulary as it relates to lyrics, for example, chorus, verse, introduction, and coda. The students will also gain an introduction into music history and style, learning about music from several different cultures and time periods.
