About Alex

I’m Alex, a guitarist, bassist and songwriter based near Paddington. I’ve been playing guitar for eight years, and I graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2026 with a BA in Music and Sound Design for Film, Television and Interactive Media.

Music is a big part of my life outside teaching too. I write, record and produce my own songs, release them under my own music project, and gig around London at venues like the Amersham Arms and The Beehive. That means I can help with the things beyond technique: playing with confidence in front of people, writing your own songs, and recording yourself at home.

Teaching guitar to primary school children on my university’s Music Pedagogy module showed me how much I enjoy helping someone go from “I can’t do this” to playing their first full song. I’ve also trained new staff in previous jobs, so I’m used to explaining things patiently, step by step, at whatever pace suits you.

I speak English, Russian and Romanian, so I can teach in whichever you’re most comfortable with. I’m friendly, reliable and organised, and I’ll always turn up with a plan for your lesson.

Whether you’ve never held a guitar or you’re stuck on the same few chords, I’ll build every lesson around you and the music you actually want to play.

I teach electric guitar, acoustic guitar and bass to kids and adults, from complete beginners to intermediate players. Depending on your goals, we can work on chords and strumming, riffs and your favourite songs, reading tab and sheet music, music theory, and writing your own songs. If you’d like to record yourself, I can also show you how to get a good guitar sound at home in GarageBand or Logic Pro.

My approach is simple: we pick a song or skill you care about, break it down step by step, and finish each lesson with a clear plan of what to practise. That way you can hear yourself improving week to week instead of feeling stuck.

Lessons are usually 60 minutes, or 30 minutes for younger children. They’re one-to-one, at your home, at mine near Paddington, or online, in English, Russian or Romanian.

I’m a Royal Holloway music graduate and a gigging guitarist and songwriter with eight years of playing behind me. At university I took a Music Pedagogy module, where I taught guitar to primary school children and taught a complete beginner over a month as an assessed teaching project.

Details

First lesson free: a relaxed 30 minutes to meet, hear what you’d like to play and plan your lessons, with no obligation to continue.

£25 for a 60-minute lesson, or £15 for 30 minutes, which suits younger children.

The price is the same whether we meet at your home or online. All teaching materials are included. You just need a guitar or bass, and if you don’t have one yet, I’m happy to help you choose one.

Book a block of five lessons and pay £110 instead of £125.

Payment is by bank transfer or cash. Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or move a lesson, otherwise it’s charged.
