About Sonia
I have been tutoring for 4 years and would like to say that there is no career better than knowing your students have learnt something because of you! Last year, I joined an educational charity (Action Tutoring) which aims to support disadvantaged pupils to raise their attainment in maths and English. As a volunteer I encourage these individuals to develop the best study skills to become effective mathematical learners.

Hello,
I am a secondary school maths teacher at Firth Park Academy. Having been passionate about teaching mathematics from a young age, my degree offers me both a mathematics degree and an opportunity to develop skills to support and encourage secondary school students to excel in mathematics which I am able to apply in my teaching practices today.
I am a friendly, easy-going and a patient individual who is able to get along with people of all ages.
I know how difficult the subject can be and I have seen students struggle in class. However, my aim is to make mathematics an interesting and a fun subject to learn to ensure students to become confident learners. I do this by structuring my lessons based on the preferred learning styles of the pupil. Moreover, I believe that working through problems and getting students to understand mathematical concepts is crucial in achieving top grades in contrast to memorising facts, which is supported by most schools.
My padegogies have been proven to ameliorate the understanding of my students; having tutored a couple of students in the past 5 years, one of my students, who struggled with algebra was predicted a grade 4 in GCSE mathematics but over a course of 7 weeks of tuition she came out of a surprise to see that she achieved a final grade of 5. This really shows that anyone can achieve in mathematics.
