About Nina
My name is Nina, I am 27 years old and live in South Africa. I speak fluent English but have worked across language barriers before. At high school level, I was the head of the art department and was class assistant for 4 years. I received 100% for both my final exhibition and my History/Theory exam. I studied fashion design for 1 year and then began my trajectory in sustainability and permaculture. I pride myself in consistently achieving distinction while still maintaining my passion & joy for the subject. I had many struggles during my formative years when it came to producing art which resonated with me but also allowed me to achieve good grades. There is a fine line and I prioritize meeting a criteria while still producing brilliant conceptual work. I think it’s important for a student to work in rebellion of the “suffering artist” trope. There are different ways to create a concept and I feel passionately about guiding people towards their fullest creative potential without harming their ego in the process.

My name is Nina and I have had over 15 years of self-taught experience in fine art. I am a multidisciplinary artist who primarily speaks English, but I am also able to work with students who are semi-fluent (I cannot teach English from scratch, but I have worked across language barriers before). Practical tutoring is aimed at all levels (it’s never too late to start), but I can only tutor theory & history at a high school level. If you are an adult who would like to learn the theory and history behind your craft, I would be overjoyed to assist. If you are looking to expand on your craft, refine a skill you already have, or start something from scratch, this is the place for you :) I have tutored high school level and provided guidance to seniors through their final exhibition process for 4 years and have since been expanding on my own craft. I have focused on a process that is proactive and incites joy. Creating art within a curriculum, or even just society, where we are under pressures of expectation & judgment, leaves the craft feeling empty and painful to navigate. As a rebellion to the suffering artist trope, I focus on conceptualizing without having to put oneself through such turmoil. I take inspiration from all corners of life and prioritize authentic engagement with the subject matter. Multidisciplinary includes: - Ink, black work & stippling - Watercolors & gouache - Graphite, pencil & charcoal - Oil painting & acrylic - Cyanotype - Lino cutting - The basics of hand & machine sewing - Visual diary process, research & conceptualization My sessions are neurodivergent friendly. I am able to work with low support needs folk and will base each lesson on my student's energy levels and receptivity at the time, whether my student is neurodivergent or not. This does not mean we will do less or more work, we may just have to approach things differently :)
