About MARGOT
a semi retired academic - i have a BSc hon, Phd (U Syd) and a Med Ed teaching certificate (Newcastle on Tyne U, UK). I have taught anatomy inc neuro, histology, cell biology, biochem, physiology, research methods, ethics, microscopy light, EM and confocal as well as reproductive biology as well as practical classes, including cell culture - also field work . I am a sucessful researcher, 50 publications as well as conference talks and posters. I have graduated many post grads and have a held quite a few grants.

Learning is a step in understanding reality and thus enables a different perception of the world.
I have an open approach to learning, and believe students should be empowered in their learning environment by being able to decide on the direction that their studies may take.
My personal approach entails
A desire to share a love of the subject and engender enthusiasm in the student makeing the material being taught both interesting, relavent and stimulating.
Explain material plainly with a commitment to making it absolutely clear what is to be understood, at what level and why.
Show concern and respect for the student.
Be commited to encouraging student independence and encoutrage the student to adapt to new demands.
Improvise, and use teaching methods and academic tasks that require students to learn actively, responsibly and cooperatively.
Always use valid assessment methods.
Focus on key concepts where students display any misunderstanding rather than cover the ground and give quality feedback on student’s work.
Importantly, learn from students and other sources about the effect of my teaching and how it can be improved.
