Senior Business Analyst with 12+ Years' Experience Teaches Practical SQL for Beginners in Cheltenham

About Ravi kiran

Hyderabad and now as a Senior Business Analyst at BT Group in the UK, where I use data every day to help the business understand what's happening and make better decisions.

SQL has been central to that work throughout my career. I use it to query large datasets, investigate revenue and process issues, and build the analysis that feeds directly into reports for senior stakeholders — so my skills come from genuine, sustained professional use, not just study.

I started tutoring because I saw a real gap between how SQL is often taught — abstract syntax with little real-world context — and how it's actually used to solve problems at work. Having relied on SQL professionally for over a decade, I can teach it the way it's genuinely applied, at a pace that matches where you're starting from.

I prepare properly for every lesson and take tutoring seriously. Whether you're a complete beginner, working through a course, or a professional looking to move into a data-focused role, you can expect patient, structured, and practical teaching from someone who uses these exact skills in a real corporate environment every day.

I'm based in Cheltenham and look forward to helping you build genuine, lasting confidence with SQL.

My approach

I teach SQL the way I use it every day — as a practical tool for pulling out real answers from real data, not just a set of syntax rules to memorise. In my work as a Senior Business Analyst at BT Group, and before that at TCS, I use SQL constantly to investigate business problems: finding root causes, tracking down revenue leakage, and building the queries that feed into the reports senior stakeholders rely on. That's the same approach I bring to teaching.

Lessons are hands-on from the start. Rather than working through abstract syntax in isolation, I build lessons around real, practical queries — filtering, joins, grouping, aggregations, subqueries — using example datasets that mirror the kind of problems you'd actually face, whether that's for study, an interview, or a job. I first find out what you need SQL for and tailor the pace and content to that, rather than teaching a fixed generic course.

Lesson length

Sessions typically run 1–1.5 hours — enough time to properly work through one concept with practice, without overloading you. I'm flexible and happy to adjust to what works best for you.

My experience

I'm not a career trainer — I'm a working data professional who relies on SQL daily to analyse business performance and support decision-making in a corporate environment. That means I teach current, workplace-relevant SQL, grounded in how it's actually used, rather than purely academic theory.

Who this is for

These lessons suit complete beginners with no prior coding background, students studying SQL or databases as part of a course, and working professionals who want to build genuine confidence with SQL for their job or a career move into data or analytics. Lessons are in person, offline, based in Cheltenham.
