About Jaxon
I have been playing guitar for over 20 years, and have been teaching guitar for the past 10. I studied music at the Central Institute of Technology, achieving up to a Certificate IV in Music Performance. I then achieved a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honors from the University of Western Australia. Though I majored in psychology and philosophy, as a result I have a better understanding of how the mind works and how people actually learn new skills, including learning and mastering an instrument. This informs the practice strategies I personally utilize and teach to others. I also took the opportunity to take elective units in music during my time at UWA whenever possible. During my career as a guitar player, I have performed countless gigs around Perth, both in metal bands and more recently as a solo, nylon-string acoustic guitar performer. I have composed music for various projects, and recorded guitar tracks in a professional recording studio environment. I currently focus on classical guitar and fingerstyle playing, as well as jazz and chord-melody arrangements of well-known tunes, however I am experienced in virtually all genres of guitar playing and will be happy take on any student, regardless of their genre of choice. In my opinion, learning to play music for people is one of the greatest joys in life. I'm excited to get eager musicians to a level where they feel comfortable performing for others. Music is meant to be shared, after all.

I work with students to figure out both short-term and long-term goals-- whether it be learning a particular song or piece of music, or developing a certain guitar technique, how to learn songs by ear, tab, chord chart, standard music notation, or simply improving as a player overall. Once these goals have been established, I help students achieve these goals by showing them effective practicing strategies, how to get the most out of a practice session, avoiding bad habits, imparting all the tips and tricks I've picked up over the years, and most of all I teach to students how to be more independent so that they can teach themselves. These concepts are catered to every student individually, no matter what level you're at or what genre of guitar playing interests you.
I also offer a more general crash course for absolute beginners, in which you'll learn the fundamentals of guitar playing, as well basic music theory concepts, so that students will be well positioned to branch out into any style of guitar playing they are interested in.
Lessons are generally 1 hour long, but I am happy to provide lessons of up to 2 hours by request. Sessions are usually conducted online, but I also offer in-person lessons in Perth.

My son absolutely loves his guitar lessons with Jaxon. He is patient, and clearly has an admirable passion for music, particularly guitar. Jaxon is an extremely patient, friendly and knowledgeable guitar teacher. He made things like scales and musical theory very easy to understand and fun to learn. He has a very broad musical repertoire and was able to teach my son Beethoven and Metallica in the same lesson. I highly, highly recommend Jaxon and look forward to my son’s future lessons
