About Minty

I want to teach Cymraeg now, after learning it myself, because genuinely — this language has changed my life.

Just over three years ago, I was a nervous learner trying to get my head around basic vocab, second-guessing everything I said and wondering whether I’d ever actually be able to have a proper conversation in Cymraeg.

Now I use it every single day.

I work through it. I make friends through it. I laugh through it. I’ve built parts of my life around it. It’s become a massive part of who I am — and, for me, that’s how it should feel. Cymraeg shouldn’t feel like something that belongs in a classroom or in a textbook. It’s ours. Particularly if you’re from Cymru, live here, or have some kind of connection to this place.

Somewhere along the way though, something changed.

I stopped just wanting to learn Cymraeg for myself.

I started wanting other people to feel what I’d felt.

For the last 14 months, I’ve been teaching Cymraeg informally, face-to-face, whilst still dysgu-ing myself. And I think that’s actually really important. I haven’t forgotten what it feels like to be sitting there thinking, “What on earth does that mean?” or knowing exactly what you want to say but your brain refusing to let the words come out of your mouth.

I’ve been building my own hyder — my confidence — at the same time as helping other people build theirs. And now I feel like I’m at a point where I can really make an impact on somebody else’s journey.

Because those little moments are massive.

That moment when you suddenly realise you’ve just had an entire conversation without translating every sentence in your head.

The first time you make somebody laugh in Cymraeg.

The first time somebody speaks to you in Welsh and, instead of panicking, you just… answer them.

Or that brilliant moment when you walk away afterwards thinking:

“Blinkin’ eck… I actually did that.”

I know how intimidating learning a language can be because I was that person very recently. I know the frustration. I know the overthinking. I know what it’s like to be absolutely terrified of getting something wrong, even when you probably knew the answer all along.

But I also know how bloody brilliant it feels when your confidence finally catches up with everything you’ve learned.

And that’s why I want to teach now.

I don’t just want to sit there teaching somebody lists of vocabulary and grammar rules.

Of course, we’ll learn those things — they matter.

But I want to help people use their Cymraeg.

I want people to make mistakes. Have a laugh. Say something completely wrong and laugh about it. Try again. Find their own voice. Stop worrying about sounding “perfect”. Start conversations they never thought they’d be brave enough to have.

And eventually, I want them to get to that point where Cymraeg doesn’t feel like this thing they’re learning anymore.

It just feels like something they can do.

Something that belongs to them.

Because I know what Cymraeg has given me in three years.

And if I can help somebody else feel even a fraction of that?

That would mean an awful lot to me.

I started learning Cymraeg just over 3 years ago, and now I use it every day in my work and everyday life. I know what it takes to go from being a nervous learner starting with “Pwy wyt ti?” to someone who can jump in and out of the language with confidence and without hesitation — and that experience shapes the way I teach.

My lessons are relaxed, practical and built around you. Whether you want to improve your confidence speaking, work through a particular grammar point, practise everyday conversations or start learning Cymraeg from the very beginning, we’ll focus on the things that will actually help you use the language.

I remember exactly what it feels like to be a learner, because I still dysgu Cymraeg myself — and I’ll never stop. That means I’ve got plenty of resources, methods and a whole book of tricks that I’ve picked up along the way, particularly for those moments when something just isn’t clicking!

I tailor each lesson around how you learn, where you’re currently at and where you want your Cymraeg to take you. There’ll be plenty of speaking, plenty of encouragement, and absolutely no pressure to get everything right first time.

Felly, os ’dych chi eisiau sgwrs wythnosol yn Gymraeg, if you’re stumped on one particular part of your taith dysgu (learning journey), or simply want to start your journey with someone who knows exactly what those first steps feel like… I’d love to help.

The goal is simple: to get you actually using your Cymraeg and feeling more confident every time you do.

Edrychaf ymlaen at glywed oddi wrthych yn fuan!
I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Minty =)
