About Robert

I'm Robert, and I will give you time to hear an idea before expecting you to sing it confidently. If a note is uncertain, we can listen again, shorten the phrase or begin from a pitch that feels familiar. I do not want the lesson to become a series of guesses followed by a verdict. We will identify what you were aiming for and what information would make the next attempt easier. Sometimes the useful step is singing; sometimes it is listening carefully without making a sound yet.

I will keep the distinction between a musical challenge and physical discomfort clear. We can explore a new interval or a different phrase shape while staying within an easy range and modest volume. You can tell me when a suggestion feels awkward, and we can change the key, shorten the line or return to a simpler sound. My explanations will stay connected to what you can hear and experience. If an image or phrase of mine is confusing, we can replace it with a demonstration and a smaller task instead of treating your confusion as a lack of effort.

I want beginners to have a clear entry point and more developed singers to have room for detailed work. With a child, that might mean remembering and answering a short musical call. With a teenager, it could mean making a chosen chorus more dependable. Adults returning to singing can rebuild familiarity without needing to sound polished at the beginning, while advanced students can bring questions about a difficult entry or melodic passage. We will use those interests to make the work specific. You should leave knowing which part of the melody you are preparing and how to practice it without wearing out your voice through repeated full-song attempts.

Recognizing a melody when someone else sings it is different from finding its next note yourself. We will build the connection between hearing a destination and singing towards it. You might listen to two comfortable notes, trace whether the second moves up or down, and echo the pair on an easy sound. We can then place those notes into a short phrase from a song. This gives a complete beginner a small, clear musical task instead of asking for a whole performance immediately. The emphasis is on an attentive, comfortable attempt, with time to hear the phrase again when the target is not yet clear.

If the same leap in a song keeps feeling uncertain, we will look at the notes on either side and hear the destination before adding the original rhythm. You can try the arrival note on its own, sing a short route towards it, then return to the actual interval. That helps separate uncertainty about pitch from the difficulty of reaching it in context. Returning and intermediate singers can use this to settle familiar melodic patterns; advanced singers can examine less expected intervals, changing harmony or phrases that begin after a long rest. We will choose a comfortable key and volume. Strain or discomfort means stopping and adjusting the task, not pressing harder for the note.

We will restore the words, rhythm and expression as soon as the melody becomes clearer. A held pitch can feel different once consonants and changing vowels are involved, so we can rebuild a short line gradually while keeping its direction in mind. Children can answer short sung questions, teenagers can explore a melody they have chosen, and adults can work from a simple refrain towards a longer musical phrase. Between lessons, you will have a brief listening and singing task with a clear starting pitch and stopping point. You will learn to notice whether the difficulty is hearing, remembering or producing the next part, which makes practice more useful than repeatedly hoping the whole line will work.
