About Wes
I am a dedicated guitar tutor with over 7 years of experience teaching students of all ages and abilities, including those with learning differences such as ADHD, dyslexia, and anxiety. Holding a Bachelor of Music in Popular Music (Guitar), I bring a strong foundation in both performance and music education. My background also includes training in music therapy and special education, which guides my adaptive and student-centred approach. I use strengths-based teaching methods that focus on each student’s unique abilities, interests, and learning style. Whether a student learns best through movement, visuals, or repetition, I tailor my lessons to suit them. Structure, patience, and creativity are at the core of every session. Many of my students come in feeling unsure, and leave with a renewed sense of confidence and joy. I work with complete beginners as well as experienced players seeking new direction. Together, we build musical skills in rhythm, technique, and expression—always at a pace that feels supportive and achievable. Music is a powerful tool for self-expression and growth. I believe everyone deserves the chance to succeed with it. No matter your background or challenges, I’m here to help you thrive and enjoy your musical journey.

My guitar teaching approach focuses on building strong foundations while keeping learning fun and engaging. I start by understanding each student's goals, skill level, and musical interests. Whether you're just picking up the guitar or returning after a break, I guide you step-by-step with patience and clarity. We focus heavily on rhythm practice, helping you develop timing, tempo control, and a steady groove. I introduce exercises that sharpen your ability to lock into different beats and patterns. Students learn how to apply these skills to real music—from laid-back folk strumming to tight funk rhythms and expressive blues phrasing. I also encourage students who love to lead group sing-alongs or inspire others through music. My lessons help them become confident, dynamic players who can adapt across musical settings. If you're someone who enjoys leading songs by the fire or in community spaces, I help you shine in those moments. Style adaptation is part of every session, so you'll explore how to switch between genres smoothly. I break complex techniques into small, easy parts. Lessons mix practical play with ear training, ensuring you not only play well but understand the music. My goal is to build your confidence and musical voice, one session at a time.
