Super Prof

Lynden is one of our best Computer programming tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Lynden

I have over 10 years experience working as a software engineer, I love understanding things thoroughly and I especially love helping others to understand things that they're struggling with. I work hard to rephrase things in terms you can understand, while still making sure you understand the deeper concepts. I also have a current Working With Children Check. My main language is C++, but I have experience with many other languages and am comfortable tutoring whatever language you might be trying to learn.

About the lesson

I can help explain things in a simpler way while getting at the core reasoning behind why programming is done the way it is.
If you are struggling with a course or assignments, or you simply want to get another angle on your education to make sure you understand things as completely as possible, I can help

Perfect! I came to Lynden while really struggling to complete a uni assignment. Lynden was patient, reassuring , & stuck with me through the whole assignment. He is extremely knowledgeable about code & helped guide me when my own confidence was low. He doesn’t just give you answers, he helps you understand how to get to it yourself. He went above & beyond to help me, and I will be back to learn more.

Perfect! I came to Lynden for help with a university programming course after failing the exam hurdle. He was patient and never made me feel embarrassed for asking basic questions, and as someone who thought I was bad at coding, that meant a lot. Instead of just giving me answers he'd ask the right questions until I finally understood the concept myself. After several lessons, I noticed that whenever I solved a coding problem I'd also ask myself "how would Lynden approach this?", which helped refine my thinking. He'd point out errors in my approach before they led me down the wrong path, and even when my autotests were passing he'd show me a better way to solve it. The rest was just drilling extra practice, and I realised coding wasn't such a big deal after all.

Things that used to fall apart under exam pressure became muscle memory. This term I cleared the hurdle comfortably and finished with a Distinction. Highly recommend him for anyone struggling with programming courses. Thank you!

Lynden's response
Motivated and intelligent, picks things up easily. Willing to put in the effort, understands the importance of trying to do things himself before asking for help. Very pleasant to teach.

Perfect! Lynden brings a vast wealth of knowledge and expertise. He has a gift for explaining complex concepts simply and breaking them down in a way that my son can understand. My son clicked with him straight away. We are so grateful for the enrichment Lynden provides, his patience, his generousity and willingness to share his knowledge, and the safe space he creates where my son is constantly challenged and able to grow.

Lynden's response
It was a pleasure to teach Ingrid's son, a very bright and pleasant student.
I hope you and your son remember that when someone is new to programming or is learning a new programming language, it's very normal for things to feel completely illogical or meaningless, until suddenly much of it clicks into place all at once. After that point, learning new bits seems a lot more doable.
The only way to get to that point is to keep practicing!

Really knowledgeable and experienced in C++, both the modern stuff and with legacy code.

Was known as the an expert in C++ when we were working together. He is quick to understand the code and is good at troubleshooting problems. Which are valuable skills you can only gain with experience.

I've worked with Lynden when coding up a new service to improve the resilience of a monitoring tool. I was always impressed by his deep knowledge of the fine details of c++ best practices and the STL. It was always fun and interesting working with Lynden as he's got a good sense of humour too. I'm sure he'd make a great tutor for programming!

Lynden is an excellent teacher in my experience and actually ensures you have a strong base to fully understand and not just give a surface level answer to the question. He is extremely well versed in the field, to the point he can even help with other languages to a degree due to his understanding of his field.
He also communicates well and is patient and will absolutely try his best (and succeed) in helping you learn

The pricing reflects dedicated 1-on-1 tutoring time, and is inclusive of a reasonable amount of preparation time - reading materials you provide, familiarising myself with the specifics of what you're trying to get help with, etc.
Having said that, you'll get more out of each session if you're also prepared!

If you're not able to afford my listed rate, please suggest an amount you're comfortable with! I tutor because I genuinely enjoy it, so I'm likely to accept your offer as long as I have the time.

Note: I will also answer any text based questions for free on a best-effort basis.
