About Jennifer
Hi there! I have over 8 years of experience with teaching and tutoring. I have taught courses as a STEM science camp instructor for grades K-8, worked for my hometown’s school district as an AVID tutor for high school students in chemistry, biology, Spanish, and history; and regularly volunteered as a teacher assistant and tutor for the University of California, Davis in collegiate biology courses.

As an instructor, I strive to refine student skills to give them the tools necessary to tackle their academic endeavors with confidence. Reflecting on my experiences as a student, I recognize the value of quality support and guidance from an excellent teacher or mentor. Their lasting positive impact and contribution to my growth by listening to my needs, helping me while challenging me to learn, and taking time to explain things in a way that led to understanding are all qualities I hold when I teach. My motto is to teach the student how to learn and have fun doing it. What motivates me to teach and help students is when we reach that “aha!” moment together. In my experience, I have implemented many of the common methods of learning which include visual, audio, kinesthetic, and reading/writing. To pick the right teaching style, I listen to the student's needs along with asking questions along the way as a check of their understanding. Also, when teaching difficult material I like to use a scaffolding method that allows you to build off a foundation the student already has to avoid frustration with students who learn at different paces.
