About Toni

Howdy! I am Toni from Texas and I love helping people learn languages! I've been living in Latin America as a professional teacher for the last few years where I love to explore nature, hike, camp, and visit different villages near my home. I also enjoy reading, dancing, and cooking delicious vegan meals! I used to ride horses through the Andes and have a soft spot for all animals! My teaching style is patient and warm as I genuinely want to see you succeed! My classes are also guaranteed to have you laughing and enjoying yourself, as learning should be fun!

In our first meeting, there's no charge as I want to get to know you better and share a bit about my methodology. I will ask you a plethora of questions to deduce your likes and interests, your current language level, and we will make a learning plan to get you speaking English in a jiffy specific to your individual goals! All levels are welcome to learn general English!

*General English*
For these lessons, we will discuss current events where I will show you how to come up with different structures depending on the message you want to convey - in past, present, future, and conditionals. You will also learn a boat-load of phrasal verbs and common North American idioms. The lessons will contain a fair bit of grammar, sans the grammar class bore.

*Business English*
For focused learners, we will delve into topics like CV curation, behavioral interview preparation, negotiation tactics, as well as learn about some of the most historical mergers and acquisitions and marketing campaigns. You will learn how to craft formal and informal business reports, as well as pick up some useful phrasal verbs and professional idioms all relative to your industry. All the bells and whistles are included for intermediate and advanced Business English learners.

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

Both! As a citizen of the United States, I grew up learning and speaking the language. I had largely influential teachers throughout my life who led me to where I am today. I owe it to these fabulous educators who planted the seeds of interest and helped propel me in the direction of becoming a teacher myself, and hopefully, leaving lasting impacts on my students, as they did on me.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Maya Angelou has had a profound influence on the language through her storytelling and poetry, and continues to evoke conversation today. She gave language voice and power to marginalized groups and continues to do so today with her immortal works.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

I love how the language is constantly evolving to encompass the current moments. It fascinates me when younger generations use plays on rhetoric to enhance the language, employing established vocabulary in a new and creative way.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Well, it is my native tongue, so without it, I would be lost. Not only that, but it is also a global language, and being able to speak it fluently can make the difference between landing that next promotion or staying put.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what can help the process of learning?

Phrasal verbs can get the best of us! My philosophy is to share all that I know and more, encouraging you to practice new and familiar languages with me in real conversations. We can also practice scripted conversations and role-plays, tailored to your specific needs.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

When I was a grade school student, I had a wonderful teacher who encouraged me to explore the facets of poetry, where I learned to craft words and phrases into something memorable and lasting. Thanks to her tireless efforts, I have been published for various works over the course of my career.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Learning other languages has given me the appreciation and patience to speak with others as friends first, and then as an educator and in turn, a learner as well. I left my home country nearly a decade ago, and I haven't looked back. Leaving my comfort zone has helped me to learn so much more than I ever imagined I was capable of.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

I am renowned for my patience and dynamic style, often drawing on examples and connections from unexpected sources to deliver memorable lessons. I'm also known for empathising deeply with my students as a guide, but also as a peer, as I too know how it feels to struggle in a foreign place with a new language.
