About Brenda
I have recently been employed as an online tutor for A-level chemistry students in a 6th Form College in West Yorkshire, working remotely to help improve and secure the grades of their students in the 2023-'24 A-level exams. I have more than 25 years’ experience in the teaching profession, specialising in A-level Chemistry. Throughout my career I have worked both in the private and state education sector gaining valuable experience of teaching A-level chemistry and GCSE Science from several different exam boards including AQA and OCR, and for the past 8 years while working at Wyke College in Hull, specialising in A-level chemistry only. I have a proven track record with many of my tutees gaining A*-C grades. One of my students achieved the top marks in A-level chemistry in the UK.

Brenda is a brilliant tutor who helped me hugely through my chemistry exams. She explains complex topics by breaking them down and communicating in an engaging and clear way. I’d highly recommend Brenda for anyone who’s struggling / behind or if you’re looking to shoot for A* - great tutor and lovely lady!
I very highly recommend Brenda as a tutor for A level Chemistry (AQA). I was struggling with the jump from GCSE to A level Chemistry in year 12 and found Brenda at the start of my final year and my confidence in the subject grew so fast after starting lessons. Brenda’s detailed knowledge of the A level specification and of Chemistry in general is very admirable and proved incredibly useful when we tackled difficult and confusing questions in lessons. Her way of teaching meant that she could explain complicated concepts in an easy way for me to understand and often included exam tips and tips of knowledge from outside the specification which really helped me deepen my understanding and look at concepts in a different light. Brenda would also always make sure I understood a concept properly before moving on by occasionally quizzing me on what I’ve learnt which I found incredibly helpful. Also the resources she provided were invaluable to me for lots of practice questions ranging from easy to very hard on any topic I asked for help on. What I really liked about Brenda is her commitment to teaching and the true care she had for my learning. She would often go out of her way to help me in any way that she could. I only paid her for an hour lesson each week but she never had an issue with going over the time that I paid her for just to make sure I spent more time understanding a topic we were covering. It really shows the care that she has and that’s what I really look for and admire in a tutor. At the end of year 12 my attainment in Chemistry was around a low B grade level and after having lessons with Brenda throughout my final year my grade shot up and I was predicted an A. I eventually went on to achieve a solid A* grade in the final exam. An A* grade in Chemistry seemed like such a fever dream to me (thanks to very high grade boundaries) and actually having achieved it feels incredible and I could not have done it without Brenda. Thank you Brenda for all of your help. And to anyone reading this looking for a chemistry tutor, I could not recommend Brenda enough to you.
I was really struggling with my A level Chemistry having to take it and achieve high grades as a medicine applicant. Brenda really helped me, tailoring every lesson to my areas we identified as weaknesses and taking the time to explain and practice with me at my own pace judgement free both online and in person! I never thought tutoring would be for me but Brenda truly helped with my grades, confidence and attitude towards chemistry! I could not recommend anyone else but Brenda to tutor you she is truly the best teacher i have ever interacted with me. Every session was fun, engaging and motivated me to work harder. She is the loveliest person and really took the time to know me as a person and how my brain works!! Not a bad word to say! Thank you so much Brenda for being the best and taking the time to help me i really appreciate it! Even the last minute questions at 11pm the night before my A level exam!!
