About Lola

I have always been passionate about calligraphy since I was a child, and my passion turned into something more when, thanks to my historical studies and historical reenactment activity, I really put myself to the test and began to seriously study the different calligraphies to reproduce them as faithfully as possible by copying original texts.

About the lesson

In learning ancient calligraphy, practice is the main element.
First I am going to teach you how to use a dip pen and ink in an effective way. Then we will start to look at the different alphabets, and last but not least I will provide you a few texts to copy. I love working on original texts from different historical periods!
My lessons are aimed at beginners and intermediates.

Conosco Lola da tempo ed apprezzo i suoi lavori calligrafici. Ormai nessuno ha più la capacità di scrivere in una calligrafia esteticamente piacevole, abituati a usare sempre PC e smartphone. Lola può insegnare a farlo od a ritrovare questa capacità spesso persa nel tempo e che è più importante di quanto si creda. Peraltro facendolo in modo piacevole ed interattivo.
Una bella lettera, su carta di qualità, e scritta a mano dal mittente spesso è più efficace di lunghe e banali e-mail o post sui social network che hanno vita davvero effimera.

Quando hai cominciato a seguire questa disciplina? E perché?
Fin dall'adolescenza ho sempre amato scrivere a mano e dedicarmi ai diversi stili calligrafici. Ho cominciato a praticare seriamente la calligrafia 10 anni fa grazie alla rievocazione storica.

La passione per la calligrafia mi porta pace e serenità ma anche la possibilità di confrontarmi sia con amanuensi del passato sia con artisti contemporanei.
Quali sono gli artisti o le opere che ti emozionano di più?
Gli amanuensi del passato. Potrei sfogliare in eterno il Book of Kells
Quali sono, secondo te, le qualità necessarie per riuscire in questo campo?
Estrema pazienza, una buona manualità e capacità di osservazione.
Quale consiglio daresti ad un allievo per incoraggiarlo a fare progressi?
E' come andare in palestra, più scrivi e più migliori. Prendi spunto dai copisti del passato.
C'è una delle tue opere di cui sei particolarmente orgoglioso?
Sono orgogliosa di aver copiato il Padre Nostro in tre lingue e calligrafie diverse: latino, greco e ostrogoto. Ho usato sia la pergamena sia il papiro e come inchiostro il nero fumo e il ferro gallico.
