About Johnny
I am a queer Cuban-American writer and filmmaker originally from St. Louis, MO. Raised by two scientists, I absconded for the arts at an early age. I attended film school at Columbia College Chicago before moving to Los Angeles in 2017. This fall I will begin a two year MFA program in Fiction Writing at the University of San Francisco. Recent honors & achievements include: SFFILM Rainin Grant recipient (2021), Sundance Episodic Lab Fellow (2020), Outfest Screenwriting Lab Fellow (2020). I have had fiction & nonfiction writing published in a number of publications and am currently working on my short story collection debut.

As a tutor, I seek to cater to the student's specific needs. Whether you are looking for guidance on a career in writing, college or grant applications, or help with your English homework, I have a depth of knowledge about writing that spans a decade.
I am open to taking on students of all levels. High school, college, and recent graduates are welcome, as well as prospective grad students. Additionally, I have knowledge and experience about the film industry, having lived and worked in LA for the last six years, and am happy to offer guidance and tutoring in screenwriting and the industry at large.
My main goal as a tutor is to make my students feel comfortable, supported, and understood, not just in their education specific needs, but as human beings who are striving to better themselves by arming themselves with knowledge.
