About Heather
My educational background, along with my professional experience, makes me an excellent candidate for any position that allows for planning, managing, developing, editing, writing, proofreading lesson plans, and other documents, as well as educating students/adults of all ages, requiring leadership of programs/classes, communication, or administrative responsibilities. I currently hold a BA in History and have completed my Master’s in Public Administration. The positions that I have been fortunate to obtain and as a recent owner, director, planner, decorator, interior designer, educator/teacher, mentor, colleague, friend, and active citizen within my community, I consider a privilege. I currently enjoy flexibility in being employed by Varsity Tutors and certified to teach, as well as qualified in over 150 subject areas, including TEFL, SPED, dysgraphia, dyslexia, and other learning challenge areas. Events that I have planned and expertly executed have been with professionalism, uniqueness, and overall design aspect. Courses and classes that I have taught, activities completed, and programs that I have been able to implement all required administrative skills/knowledge and development of budgets/programs and allowed for the implementation of unique ideas that would prove beneficial to many. Involvement in so many various programs has given me the platform to be able to teach, speak, develop grade-appropriate curriculum and activities, courses, and other classes. The classes, and special speaking engagements, often led to success and personal development for the attendees. It was gratifying to be able to work as a pre-k teacher, followed by later teaching long term for James City County Public Schools. While teaching, I enjoyed writing and creating lesson plans for various grade levels with unique activities, creative presentations, and more.
Travel allowed for growth and development in my leadership skills, as I had the privilege of being on the board for Cal Ripken Baseball, the co-director for two separate MOPS groups, and directed many church organizations, as well as a Girl Scout troop leader, swim coach, softball coach, and more. For three summers, I was a camp counselor at the “Fresh Air Home” in GA, with its rich history, located on Tybee Island in GA for underprivileged children, then as a leader/mentor/counselor for “The Living Vine,” in Savannah, GA, my senior year of college. I found myself learning from unique experiences and developing personal fundamental leadership skills. Volunteering as President for PTA and PTO’s respectively, being an Ombudsman for multiple USCG units, teaching piano; holding the position as team mom for well respected an extensive high school football program at Warhill High school in Williamsburg, VA, being President of “Wellington Estates Homeowners Association” and working at a large University, has only enhanced my role as a leader. More recently, it was rewarding to own an event planning venue. The venue, “Lighthouse Historical Venue,” required me, as the owner, to ensure every aspect of each event for every client (from birthday parties, showers, graduations, reunions, weddings/receptions, rehearsal dinners, homeschool events, and community engagement events), were well planned, designed and executed in the most professional manner. Each of these jobs or volunteer experiences have required a high degree of both educational and financial knowledge, computer skills, creating documents, newsletters, public speaking, communication with others, website design and management, making important decisions while ensuring budgets are adequately maintained and reviewed, and signing many requisitions and purchase orders. The volunteer positions that I currently hold or have held, as well as previous jobs, including those that allow, or have allowed for keeping active in the community and engaging/networking with others in the business world as well as my church and with family and friends throughout Effingham County. The most important job, being a dedicated wife mother, close to my family, my church, and ensuring overall personal goals are met, as well as jobs and volunteer positions chosen are enjoyable.
As a wife and mom of a college graduate and a daughter whose passion is “horses,” 4-H, etc., I find myself immersed in these things as well. I consider myself to be a very extroverted person and feel I have the leadership training, knowledge, and personality to enhance and lead any program that I’m blessed to be apart of. I thoroughly enjoy planning, teaching, evaluating, implementing programs, and have many ideas for programs. Teaching and earning skills, earning certifications, expanding my vocabulary daily, allow me to keep my education, technological advances, and skills as well as knowledge of social media current. Finally, having the privilege of being a Coast Guard wife and traveling the continental United States for the past 22 years, as well as being a stay at home mom for 20 years, allowed for volunteering, leading, directing, owning my own businesses, and starting/directing many programs. I believe there is not a more significant way to learn about such a diverse nation than to share in the many amazing experiences that were presented. I do enjoy editing, writing, and reading reports, thesis papers, articles, stories, both fiction and non-fiction, as well as have a deep love for literature. English as a second language has become something that I find myself enjoying teaching, writing lesson plans, and executing them as well. The most recent being the completion of the TEFL certification course and currently working on becoming a certified Google Classroom Educator.
I have more than 22 years of experience in the fields of Education and Administration. One will find that my resume shows consistency in working hard, mostly in volunteer organizations, and having always increased my responsibilities. The credentials that I have are a direct result of my expertise in the fields listed, as well as my commitment to personal and professional excellence, and continually striving to learn and even further develop excellent written and oral communication skills.
I have taught in classrooms having 15-30 students while adhering to both public school and private curriculum guidelines. As a result of my instruction and supplementary tutoring, my students achieved well on tests taken, and their study skills and knowledge of each subject were remarkable.
I maintain this high standard of academic achievement at each school that I have been privileged to teach in across the continental U.S. However, my impact as a teacher extends beyond scores to focus on each individual student. I have held supplementary tutoring sessions with struggling and special needs students and regularly integrate new classroom technologies into a lesson to excite my students. Given my years of experience and passion for teaching, I am confident that I would make a positive impact as part of the professional instruction team in your remarkable educational setting.

The human brain is designed not only to learn but also to decide what, when, and how it will learn. When we trust children and youth enough to ask and answer their own questions and to explore their strengths and abiding passions, each student reveals what their brain has decided it most needs or wants to learn.
Having been a preschool, kindergarten, middle, and then high school educator for the better part of two decades, I can honestly say that I’ve never encountered an unmotivated student. It has always been my goal and desire to ensure that each lesson I plan allows for engagement, by implementing all learning styles into the curriculum other than the one the children/youth create themselves. However, it’s my strong belief that self-motivation should be the gold standard.
Educators who understand their role as facilitating rather than instructing find that allowing children & youth to own their learning leads to more eager and productive engagement, although it does require setting aside adult notions of the proper way to go about learning something. Often this means doing nothing, which is hard for many of us. It can mean that the learning doesn’t happen in the orderly way we might envision. It means understanding that there is no such thing as wasted time because sometimes learning requires looking at things from all sides, both alone and in the company of others, and with all of our senses. It might be shocking to students, but most teachers enjoy an array of activities and hobbies outside the classroom. As teachers, we must explore how these personal interests can be harnessed as resources for student learning and sparking new interests
The grades include both formative and summative assessments. Grades provide clear, consistent, and timely feedback. • Grades reflect content knowledge. • Grades are an indicator of progress toward mastery of learning objectives. • Grades are an opportunity for students to take ownership of, and responsibility for, their own learning. • Behavior and effort are assessed separately from learning objectives. • Grades are a method of communication between the parent and school division.
ACADEMIC
Formative assessment is used during learning to gauge student learning progress. It helps to identify and remediate individual deficiencies in learning and may or may not result in a grade. It is used at a time when adjustments may be made to teaching and learning activities to ensure student achievement, as well as learning goals, are based on the curriculum. Formative assessment must be academic in nature and support the learning objective. As each section and lessons progress, new topics and hundreds of interactive lectures and real-world applications occur. Assessments include daily practice and other worksheets, homework, and use of Quizlet, Videos, and use of a grading Rubric when grading projects.
Summative Assessment is used after instruction to measure student growth related to standards. It is essential to give it a point to determine if the mastery of learning objectives were met. Summative assessment includes a variety of formats such as, but not limited to: tests, Standards of learning correlation and the use of formulas, websites, skills, increase in speed or accuracy, as well as ( A yearend test and project gave to ensure that proficiency).

I require a 24-hour cancellation. I do understand that there are emergencies and a courtesy phone call or text is sufficient if this is the case and they do not become routine. I will allow for two emergency non-24-hour cancellations and then have to charge.
