My Approach as a Tutor I don’t teach by memorization—I teach for understanding. My goal is to help students truly grasp the why behind each concept so they can confidently solve problems and apply their knowledge independently. I believe once a student understands the concept, memorization happens naturally as they use it. Teaching Methods & Techniques • I break down complex topics into simpler, manageable parts. • I use visual aids, analogies, and real-life examples to connect abstract ideas to practical understanding. • I encourage active learning—asking questions, solving problems together, and reviewing mistakes without judgment. Typical Lesson Plan While my lessons are flexible based on the student’s needs, a typical session looks like this: 1. Quick check-in to see where the student is struggling. 2. Concept review or teaching with clear explanations and examples. 3. Practice questions based on homework, exam prep, or custom problems. 4. Wrap-up with summary tips and strategies for studying or review. I don’t use rigid lesson plans because I adapt to each student’s goals—whether it’s tackling tough homework or preparing for an exam. What Sets Me Apart From Other Tutors • I’m currently studying Biomedical Science, so I understand what today’s students face and how to succeed. • I focus on teaching students the subject matter but also helping students learn to study on their own. Who My Lessons Are For • High school or college students struggling with General Chemistry or General Biology. • Students preparing for tests, midterms, or finals. • Anyone who wants to boost their grades, understand concepts better, or feel more confident in general chem and biology classes.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed my passion for biology in the summer of 2021, in which I learned about nitrogen fertilization. This sparked a love which cascaded down to other topics such as taxonomy, microbiology, and animal science. In regards to chemistry, I developed my love for the subject in my freshman year of chemistry. I was initially anxious as this was my first real encounter with chemistry. However I quickly caught on, and it became my easiest subject. I truly enjoyed learning about chemistry and wished to help others find this joy as well. My interest in private tutoring developed after my stint of tutoring mathematics as a local center. I enjoyed learning and helping others learn as well. I became quite experienced at teaching, such that when school started, I used my experience of teaching to privately tutor other students on difficult subjects, namely chemistry and biology.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I enjoy pretty much all topics regarding chemistry and biology. My favorite topics from chemistry include stoichiometry, vsepr theory, thermochemistry, and equilibrium. One of my least favorite topics might be identifying lewis acid and bases. For biology, I deeply enjoy photosynthesis, cell biology, evolution, and especially zoology. A tougher subject might be reproduction as chromosomes can be difficult to grasp.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I've had a few role models. One of my first inspirations was Mr. Medina. He taught math at IB Lamar Academy. He inspired me by always remaining calm and patient during classes and advisories, in which many students asked a multitude of questions, oftentimes all at once, especially me.

Another role model is Leon Woloski. Similarly he taught math, however he specifically taught as the head instructor at the math center I worked at. He essentially taught me everything there is to know about tutoring and working with students of all ages. Finally, another role model has to be
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs to have empathy and patience as helping others learn can be a long process. A good tutor must also be a good and active listener and be able to change their methods on the dime in order to support every student. One more thing related to these qualities is the ability to break down complex ideas into simpler pieces. Finally, a good tutor should enjoy both learning and teaching. When a teacher loves teaching, the student will also love learning.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my first days in college, I was worried about embarking on a new subject, which was chemistry. The first lesson occurred and I learned the subject wasn't too difficult. Well, perhaps the material was difficult, but I went into the class with an open mind and a good attitude, and I believe that this helped me take in knowledge and process it at the same time. I am not very good at memorization, but this has helped me as I have instead relied on comprehension. In any case, after several days of classes had finished some students were having trouble with certain topics. They had begun to ask me for help as I seemed to understand everything and answer every question asked, they said. While I did answer all questions, sometimes wrong, I always raised my hand. Like I said before, I had a positive attitude and went into class with confidence. This did in turn make me do better in class and better and understanding. Furthermore, when I helped my classmates, I not only recited the information in simpler terms, but also did my best to inspire confidence and thus comprehension within them. The point of this anecdote is that tutoring is not just about acquiring knowledge, it is about feeling confident and learning in more ways than just memorization. Memorization is like finding puzzle pieces, but comprehension is putting those pieces together. This is learning I believe.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The greatest difficulty I faced within both subjects was a large surplus of information for each topic. During my learning of the subjects, I managed to get a great understanding of the topics, however I at times struggled gathering the intricate pieces of knowledge within these topics. In short, I understood the topics well, but was unable to perfectly recite every aspect of these topics.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My greatest passion is learning and appreciating the things of the world. What I mean is that I enjoy learning new things everyday, and I especially enjoy learning the sciences, such as biology and chemistry. I am passionate about learning new species everyday, and wish to learn every species possible as my career.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P?

I believe that my passion for learning and teaching makes me a superprof, as well as my taking of roles beyond the call of duty. I care about my students as though I had been teaching them for an eternity, and would go through heaps to see them success and above all feel confident of their abilities.
