About Yoshino

Hi! I'm a native Japanese kendo practitioner with 20 years of experience and a 3rd-dan rank. I used to work as a police officer in Japan, where kendo is part of official training. Practicing alongside fellow officers taught me the importance of strong fundamentals, discipline, and respect in every keiko. I've also taught kendo to children and beginners, so I know how to break down movements step by step and explain them in a way that's easy to understand. I've lived in the Philippines for six months and in Australia enjoy for a year, and I connecting with people from different cultures. I can explain kendo in English, including the Japanese terms and the ideas behind them. To me, kendo is more than a sport. It's a way to build your body, mind, and character. I'd love to help you enjoy that journey and grow as a kendoka, wherever in the world you train.

These lessons are designed for kendo practitioner who already train at a dojo and want extra, personal feedback between practices. I'm not here to replace your sensei. My goal is to help you get more out of every keiko. How it works: Send me your video after booking. Record your suburi, kamae, or footwork and send it to me at least 24 hours before your lesson, along with any questions or concerns you have. I review it carefully. I watch your movements in detail, including in slow motion, and prepare clear written feedback with specific points to improve. We go through it together in the lesson. If a point is easier to understand by seeing it, I'll demonstrate the movement for you. If you'd like me to check your movement live, just show me and I'll give you feedback on the spot. We'll finish with practice methods and the mindset to take back to your dojo. Keep improving with ongoing lessons. If you book your next lesson, you can send me a new video, either during the lesson or any time before the next one, whichever suits your practice schedule. I'll review it so we can track your progress and decide what to focus on next. What we can work on: Suburi form (posture, grip, swing path, and timing) Kamae and footwork, including suri-ashi and fumikomi basics Reiho (etiquette) and the meaning behind it Any questions or struggles you have, such as hitting a plateau or understanding what your sensei told you Filming tips: Film in landscape mode, with your whole body in the frame, from head to feet. If possible, record from both the front and the side. Make sure you have enough space to swing a shinai safely. Please note that these lessons can't include sparring or strike practice with a partner. Instead, we focus on the fundamentals you can train on your own and take back to your dojo. With 20 years of experience, including training as a police officer in Japan, I'd be happy to share what I've learned and support you on your kendo journey.
