I am fortunate to be able to travel and this is what enabled me to put into practice what I learned in college. But it was especially during my year in Berlin where I was au pair, that my level of English has considerably improved! For me there are no secrets: practicing a language is the best way to learn it.
To learn a foreign language you have to think in this language. In my opinion, this is the hardest and longest thing to acquire. The best way to do this is to be confronted for a definite time with listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English, for example. This will allow you to think in English and not to translate from French (which does not always work very well).
In the first lessons, students are always a little apprehensive at the thought of speaking only English and they are often afraid of not understanding. But they quickly realize that translation is not essential and that the method I use works very well.
Whatever your level or vocabulary, there is always a way to make yourself understood. My goal is to encourage and give each student the confidence they often lack to express themselves in English.
