About Zheng

I always had a passion and a pure interest in the function of life as a whole, and from a young age I loved to study animals' behaviour and the anatomy, complication of illnesses of human. I have experienced the marvellous new world that Medicine opens up to me through a Medicine Summer School I have joined two years ago. And now I want to build up my experience in Medicine via working with patients in order to allow me to be able to have a better communication with them, which; I think is a major part of taking any role in the field of Medicine. Competencies Leadership I have used to be one of the maths group leaders during the first three years of my secondary school life, this is a role where I encourage everybody in my team to get involved and solve the problems together by not afraid of sharing ideas with each other. This allowed me to help people to build friendships within the group thus they feel more involved. I also usually to be the one presenting a presentation when we are set a group homework or challenge, and I would ask the group's opinion of which date is favourable for a group meeting, which in beforehand I would try to see where could we tackle the task and who would be assigned with which job according to their unique skills. Moreover, I have been doing a school mentoring programme back at my secondary school in the Science department, where I help the year 7 and 8 students regularly every Wednesday to enhance their learning and interest in Science. Independence During all my school years until now, although I enjoy group work but I like to work independently on challenging extension problems. This helps to extend my limit in the subject. Sometimes I may be stuck on a problem yet as I continue to do research and retrying the problem, it allowed me to grow a positive mindset. Resilience I have faced a number of difficulties when I first commenced school in the UK, as English is not my first language. This meant that I have to study harder than an average student in order to understand the task, which was challenging for me at first. However, I have always kept up working in order to make sure that I am not behind other students. I have also faced some difficulties during GCSE, where I need to practise piano for at least two hours every day; as well as Teamworking During my volunteering in the local Youth Club, I used to be the one who shapes and coordinates the activities that the children will do, as well as one of the person who lay out craft tables and tidying up the equipment when the Youth Club finishes. Work experience Oct 2018 - Present Teacher Assistant - Esher Church of England High School I assist my Biology teacher with his year 7 and 8 students every Wednesday for one period (1 hour) each week. I have started to be just helping to set up experiment equipment and answering some questions of individuals to eventually teaching the year 7 students lessons their Chemistry syllabus and year 8 on their Physics syllabus. Personally, despite hardening my foundation in the knowledge of science; I have also learnt a lot of key skills such as leadership, patience and understanding for people. I have also kept a book which shows the events which I have done during the period thus I can reflect on my works later. Overall, although I have faced many difficulties of getting enrolled as an assistant at first, I have learnt how to keep a positive mindset and continue to pursue towards my goal. Maths Teacher - Kew Learning - Twickenham I am a part-time Maths teacher every Saturday from 12:00 to 2:30, for students aged between 7 and 10. My role is to explain what the students have done wrong on their previous Maths homework booklet, which then I question a two or three similar questions to test whether they have truly understood. I have also been Oct 2018 - Present Jan 2017 - May 2018 Education Jan 2014 - Present Sep 2013 - Jul 2018 Other interests Jan 2014 - Present helping them with any areas of Maths they are interested in (for example; algebra and translation) in order to both enhance their knowledge in Maths and their passion in Maths. Overall, I have learnt how to be patient and caring to students (as they may not be best at one topic than another), and also learnt to hear from the students before explaining the question to them. Youth Club Helper - St Barnabas Youth Club I volunteer regularly every Friday afternoon for 2 and a half hours. I ensure to bring out all the equipment on time (normally arriving around 6.15pm for the 6:30 - 9.00pm session thus I am not delaying the activities). Moreover, I help to coordinate activities for the children age varying from 6 - 14 and also helping to crafts after the activities. I have learnt many new skills that would be useful for working in healthcare, as I can now communicate better with young patients, as well as time management, caring skills and acting as a decisive leader or a helpful assistant for a team. ABRSM Piano - Personal Tutoring Grade 8 - Merit GCSE - Esher C of E High School A* - Chinese (Mandarin) 9 - Maths 9 - Chemistry 9 - Biology 8 - Physics 8 - French 6 - Geography 5 - History 5-5 - English Literature and Language 5 - Photography (Arts and Design) Piano Grade 8 I have been practising piano every day for at least one and a half hour. At first, this was quite hard as I constantly forgot to practise or was not motivated to play a piece of music because it was monotonous. However, I have eventually grew a positive mindset from presentations from school and also other extracurricular hobbies that I do. Overall, I have learnt how to persevere and try constantly through times when the music piece is challenging. And I have also learnt how to squeeze time to practise during times such as GCSE, which allowed me to learn the importance of time and that my actions will be responsible for the future. However, the most important is whenever I am feeling negative, playing the piano always help me to brush the mood away and continue to face the problem.
