About Steve
As a former university admissions officer, I have read countless personal statements, CVs and run numerous admissions interviews for postgraduate courses over the past 10 years.
I know what works and the key errors to avoid. Past students tell me that the best thing is having an expert supporting and coaching them, as they navigate this complex and, often, stressful selection process.
My expert knowledge subjects are: media, humanities, business, and social sciences at undergraduate, postgraduate and up to PhD. I do not cover admissions to any STEM subjects. I support UK and international students.
I am a university lecturer in journalism in London with extensive experience supporting students. I teach at postgraduate level, have acted as an external examiner for UK universities, and understand how admissions tutors think and what they look for in applications.
My background includes:
teaching and assessing university-level work in journalism and media
designing learning materials and courses for higher education
mentoring students on academic writing, portfolio development and career planning
I bring a friendly, structured approach to admissions support: I will be honest about what is working in your application, explain clearly what needs to improve, and help you make those changes step by step

I support students applying to UK universities to develop compelling personal statements and to prepare confidently for interviews.
My focus is on helping you articulate your strengths, experiences and motivations in a clear, authentic voice that admissions tutors will actually want to read.
I am based in London, UK. However, I specialise in helping prospective international students applying to UK universities, especially from India, China and Nigeria.
Coaching can be in Mandarin.
Typical areas I help with include:
brainstorming and shaping your personal statement content
structuring and editing drafts (what to cut, what to add, how to improve flow)
tailoring statements for competitive courses (including humanities, social sciences and journalism)
preparing for academic and competency-based interviews (including mock interviews)
developing confident, concise answers to common interview questions
I can work with you at any stage – from “I have no idea where to start” to polishing a final draft before submission. Sessions are one-to-one and fully tailored to your course choices, predicted grades and target universities.
I also advise on: choosing between offers, understanding what admissions tutors look for, and planning relevant experience (e.g. reading, projects, extracurriculars) that strengthens your application.
