Most of the classes I adored were in psychology not only because I was very interested in the subject and still am, but because individuals with a psychology background are privy to the different ways students learn, behave, and retain information. Richard Mayer - a renowned Educational Psychology professor at UCSB taught a class that gives me some basis as to how education and psychology inform one another. Taking a page from Finnish education, I assess a students strenghts and weaknesses and help them in more fundamental areas that need to be improved. I also attempt to be engaging and encouraging when I see a student needs it and and when they work hard.
