About Jacob
I am a recent graduate in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge who is offering tutoring for Oxbridge admissions and a variety of GCSE and A-level subjects. While I have not yet worked as a professional tutor, I have frequently helped peers and younger students to understand challenging topics and navigate murky landscapes in my A-level subjects (Psychology, Religious Studies, and Sociology) and degree subject (Philosophy). I often received the feedback that my engagement was tailored to their needs and capabilities - identifying their current understanding to tactfully steer it forwards - and I was even once told that my help with a dissertation plan was better than that of the allocated supervisor. I am keen to secure my first tutoring clients to use my experience from quality educational institutions for the betterment of others, and propel my tutoring career.

As all good tutors should, I help students fill gaps in content knowledge and understanding, develop key skills, and (perhaps most importantly) build confidence in their academic and holistic ability and potential. In the context of an Oxbridge admissions session, this involves having a conversation about what you find most interesting, what drives you, and why – and then (e.g.) guiding you through the process of writing a succinct but compelling personal statement – but this is also a key part of my lessons on a GCSE, A-level, or Degree-level course! In the latter, I will specifically help to deliver content in a way that will make sense to you, and support the (further) development of essay-writing and exam-technique skills, but, in either case, I will be bringing out and enhancing your pre-existing enthusiasm and competence by feeding on my increasing understanding of you as an individual. I myself am particularly passionate about forms of education that allow students to find things out for themselves in a way that is hugely empowering – rather than be encouraged to blindly recite what has been stated by a teacher – and I am looking forward to utilising this passion to help students reach their potential!
