TARGET AUDIENCE:
First and second year university students studying mathematics courses (Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations).
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
I strongly believe that any student is capable of learning and becoming skilled at mathematics. While each student starts at a different point along their learning trajectory, strong mathematical thinking can be acquired through both insightful teaching along with sufficient practice.
TEACHING METHODOLOGY: I tailor my teaching approach to each student individually. I begin by first understanding the student's base-line knowledge of the theory at hand to understand where any areas of confusion may be. Based on the students understanding of the subject, I then tailor my teaching approach specifically to each student.
LESSONS: Each lesson will begin with a structured review of course content for a particular topic. We will work through insightful examples to enhance the students' understanding of the topic. Take-home problems (with solutions) will also be provided to the student to further enhance their understanding of the topics and their mathematical skills.

Brendyn was an amazing tutor. You can tell he loves to help others understand math. He has helped many students, myself included and I know everyone would agree that Brendyn was their favourite when they needed help understanding and tackling their math homework.
Brendyn is very knowledgeable and truly cares about his students. He is very passionate about teaching math. Brendyn went above and beyond during every tutoring session we had. Unlike other tutors, he prepares for his tutoring sessions and therefore is able to provide efficient help without wasting any time. He breaks down difficult concepts in a way that makes sense and is easy to understand. He was very accommodating with scheduling the sessions, even though it was last minute during exam season. Brendyn is the best math tutor!!! I highly recommend him to anyone who needs help with math.
I have never had a teacher explain even the toughest concepts to the most confused students (like me !) better than Brendyn. He often wrote or drew out his explanations on paper, which was especially helpful for me as a visual learner, compared to just being spoken at. His ability to break down big ideas into manageable pieces, connect concepts, and illustrate them with examples that stuck not only helped me understand but actually enjoy Calc I and Calc II. Brendyn was such an outstanding TA that if my friends and I didn’t see him in the help centre where he taught, we would simply leave and comeback when he was on shift because we knew he was the only one who could truly help us. The amount of effort Brendyn puts into teaching goes above and beyond, and as his student you will get closer to loving math as much as he does.
Brendyn is a TA at the University of Alberta, and he helped me through calculus 1 and 2 during my first year of university. He is a visual teacher, explaining concepts on paper and using graphs and whatnot to reinforce what he is teaching. He was helpful, patient, and amazing at explaining even the most difficult of concepts. I never felt scared to ask him a question, even ones that were “easy”. If you want someone who is able to explain concepts in a plain way that makes sense, and doesn’t make you feel silly for it; I would highly recommend Brendyn. I would not have passed without him.
Me and Brendyn knew each other through a tutoring program at my school. He is the type of tutor to make sure that the student fully understands math by being proactive and asking the student questions. His tutoring is engaging and relatable through providing accurate analogies and by describing his own personal struggles with learning math. During finals, I felt Brendyn was never remotely condescending even when explaining basic concepts. Brendyn is always able to provide good clarification on all misunderstandings in math. He excels at communicating challanging concepts so that the student walks away with a better understanding.
First, his communication is very good. His vocabulary and clarity of words were well chosen and were easy to understand. This mixed with his great understanding and knowledge of Academics is what makes him stand out. Not only is he clear but also very knowledgeable on the given subject to provide great explanations. This makes the advice and help received by him amazing. A firm, direct solution to a problem could always be understood from him as he could also explain it conceptually and dig deeper down into concepts behind problems. If you didn't get it at first, he would always make sure to show it another way for you to see the solution better, which is something great teachers do. He also broke solutions down into steps to make each part clearer, which helped students understand the problem better. Overall his teaching style is amazing and one you look for in a teacher. He is very nice , amazing, and understanding when it comes to helping students.
