About Nelson
I am a young university student, originally from Victoria, BC, who has recently moved to Nelson. Having pursued my studies in theology and religion in Belgium, I plan to continue next year in Rome, Italy. I have also attended UWC (United World College) in Armenia, and volunteered teaching English to rural communities in Ghana. I have grown up an avid and prolific reader and writer, and have been short-listed in a number of young writers' competitions, as well as been published in an anthology of young writers' short stories. I am currently pursuing publication in poetry.
I have experience tutoring peers in English both academically and literarily at various levels, and would be happy and eager to help with anything from grammatical and structural issues in essays to a developing interest in poetry, primarily with middle to high school level students.

My approach to tutoring English, literature, or providing introductory studies into religion, and specifically western theology, primarily focuses on a multidimensional and historical perspective, where students will be given an introduction into western history, the development and movements within the specific field, and weaving the movements and perspectives each period into a greater context. Literature and theology will be woven into the history of the arts, as well as the general political contexts of the time.
In terms of English specifically, meter and rhyme, diction, and canonical writers will be used to gain a better understanding of how the language can be used in various contexts. Whether it be a beginning interest in poetry, literature generally, or just a little bit of help with essay writing and academic language for middle and high school, I am happy to provide whatever aid is needed, and meet the student at whichever point they may be at.
