I first begin with basic music theory: the musical alphabet; notes and scales; counting - beats and bars; the fretboard before we actually grab the instrument.
Once we get to the instrument, we begin to immediately apply all the theory we’ve worked on so the student can see the theory come to life. Practical application of the theory is guided by particular disciplines that I encourage students to adopt to stave off bad habits.
Once students have been able to practically apply the basic theory and basic tools, we begin to work with chord sequences and songs and understand the discipline of playing/performing.
