About Rimsha
Hi! I'm Rimsha, a Master of Journalism student at Toronto Metropolitan University with three years of tutoring experience in English, Literature, and History. My professional background as a Coding Research Assistant and Associate Producer with CBC Radio has given me strong analytical and communication skills, which I bring directly into my teaching —helping students break down complex texts, structure clear arguments, and express their ideas with confidence.
Reading and writing aren't just what I teach — they're genuinely what I love. I'm always in the middle of a book, curious about different cultures and the stories they tell, and I try to bring that same curiosity and enthusiasm into my lessons. Outside of academics, you'll usually find me playing soccer, which has taught me a lot about patience, teamwork, and staying encouraging even when something's difficult — values I carry into tutoring too.
I believe every student can become a confident reader and writer with the right support and a bit of patience. My goal isn't just to help you finish an assignment or prepare for an exam, but to help you build skills and self-assurance that last well beyond our lessons. I create a friendly, low-pressure space where questions are always welcome, and I tailor each session to how you learn best.
I'd love to work with you — let's get started!

My Teaching Methodology and Techniques
I take a student-centered, adaptive approach rather than a one-size-fits-all lesson plan. Because I've taught across Math, English, and Science at Scholars Education Centre, I've learned that the same concept often needs to be explained three different ways depending on how a student thinks. My background in journalism and research (I currently code international news data against detailed evaluative frameworks) has trained me to break complex material into clear, structured, step-by-step components—a skill I bring directly to how I teach literary analysis, essay structure, and historical argumentation. I focus on building students' confidence in forming and defending their own interpretations, rather than just memorizing facts or themes.
A Typical Lesson
A typical session starts with a quick check-in on what's confusing or what homework/assignment is due, followed by focused work on that specific need — whether it's close-reading a passage, outlining an essay, or unpacking a historical event's causes and consequences. I like to model the thinking process out loud (e.g., "here's how I'd approach this thesis statement"), then have the student practice the same skill with guidance, and finish with a short recap of what we covered and a clear next step for their independent work.
What Sets Me Apart
A research and storytelling background: as an Associate Producer with CBC Radio and a research assistant analyzing narrative and content, I bring real editorial and analytical experience to how I teach writing and reading comprehension — not just theory.
Adaptability: my tutoring experience spans multiple subjects and learning styles, so I'm quick to adjust my approach if something isn't clicking.
Patience with iterative work: I'm comfortable guiding students through drafts and revisions, treating writing (and understanding literature) as a process rather than a one-shot task.
Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are best suited for middle school through university-level students working on English, Literature, and History — including essay writing, literary analysis, reading comprehension, exam prep, and research/argumentation skills. I'm especially well-suited to students who need help structuring arguments, developing a personal voice in their writing, or building confidence engaging critically with texts.
