About Jocelyn
Hi, I'm Jocelyn!
I hold a master's degree from USC in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, and received my bachelor's degree from Boston University in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I've spent years studying dense scientific concepts and am comfortable adapting the material into study guides and a teachable format.
Beyond the classroom, I've worked a number of research positions, from oncology plan research for Memorial Sloan Kettering/Cebu Institute of Medicine, wet lab biochemistry research, and research in drug development. This has given me firsthand experience into how scientific concepts apply to real-world problems.
I am currently applying to medical school, so I understand exactly what rigorous science coursework demands and how to build the right foundation for future study!
I focus on adapting to what helps each student learn best individually rather than a one-size-fits-all approach; my goal is for students to leave every session not just with a better grade, but with real confidence in their own ability to understand science.

My teaching method centers on building real understanding, not just memorization. Chemistry and biology can feel like dense subjects, so I start by connecting new concepts to something a student already understands, then layer complexity until the foundation is solid.
I use practice problems, real world analogies, and diagrams (whatever works best for you!!) A typical lesson starts with a quick review of previous session's material to catch what didn't fully stick, followed by focused work on the day's topic through guided practice problems, and a short set of independent problems to see where a student stands before we meet again.
For AP students, I also incorporate past AP exam questions to make sure that we are familiar with the test style and not just the content.
