About Sophie
Hi my name is Sophie and I am currently studying Veterinary Medicine at Edinburgh. I have many other interests outside of science though - in fact I intercalated in Global Health Policy in London last year!
My teaching style would be to always try to help the tutee see how they often knew the answer all along or if not how to calmly and confidently approach the task at hand. I believe this confidence is essential to exam success. My peers at uni have told me how they enjoy asking me questions as I am never patronising and make them feel like they already knew the answer - something which I think is critical for maintaining motivation when preparing for exams.
Having done the 11 +, I realise the diligence and motivation required by the child and quite often the parents too so would be glad to pass on any advice (my two younger sisters also recently did the 11+).
Moreover, I was torn between applying for Medicine or Veterinary Medicine at university so actually ended up preparing to interview for both degrees so would be happy to advise about necessary experience or any questions you may have on the application process.
I have a strong academic record, having achieved straight A*s at IGCSE and Distinctions in every vet school exam so far and truly enjoy helping others improve and feel more confident. I definitely like a challenge - I took 6 AS levels including English Literature and Government and Politics alongside my science subjects. I am a vetPAL (Peer Assisted Learning) leader at university tutoring younger vet students, and helped tutor younger years in Maths when I was at secondary school. I also have lots of childcare experience having been an after-school nanny and an au pair (teaching English) in Germany. I look forward to tutoring you!

My son has been taught by Sophie for a few weeks now for 11 plus. The lessons are fun and engaging, Sophie is able to simplify difficult concepts into small bite size that are easily digested. Sophie always has the time at the end of the lesson to explain what was taught and give feedback. Sophie also goes above and beyond with links and access to extra resources. We love Sophie so much that we have even had her help my younger son with maths.
I would highly recommend SophieSophie is part of our vetPALs team here at the University of Edinburgh; this involves running sessions for our earlier year students on topics around academic skills e.g. revision, studying, academic writing etc. Like all of our Vet PAL leaders I have been impressed with the enthusiasm she has given to this and I have seen her confidence grow during the last year as she has been involved in this. She is use to communicating with students in an appropriate language for their needs, adapting depending on requirements etc. This is totally voluntary and its clear she cares about helping others
