About Victoria
- What kind of experience do you have?
I currently teach clarinet, saxophone, flute and piano at Charlotte House Preparatory School in Rickmansworth. I also have several students I teach outside of school hours each week both online and in person. Previously I have taught at Broomwood Hall Preparatory School, St John's Preparatory School, St Pirans Preparatory School, St Augustine's C of E High School, Wandsworth Music Service and Newham Music Service for their Every Child A Musician initiative.
On a performance level I have worked extensively in musical theatre, performing in over thirty different productions off west-end, in private schools and in venues across the UK.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do have a current DBS certificate and I'm also part of their update service meaning I always have a current DBS.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained for 5 years at Trinity Laban Conservatoire gaining my Bachelors and Masters degrees. At Trinity I studied clarinet with Victoria Soames Samek, Hale Hambleton and Joan Enric Lluna, bass clarinet with Antony Jennings and Ian Mitchell, saxophone with Gerard McChrystal and Mick Foster and Flute with Lynda Coffin.
Before gaining a scholarship to study at Trinity, I attended music school at the Sage Gateshead each Saturday where I was taught clarinet with Jennifer Murray and piano with Venera Bojkova. Having learnt from and had masterclasses with renowned professionals I have gained new techniques and knowledge for developing not only my own playing but also mentoring others.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Currently my private students are between the ages of 4 and 14 and most a currently preparing for an ABRSM examination. Although enjoyment of an instrument is in my opinion of utmost importance, I tend to find that with certain students having a goal to work towards, whether that be ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall, LCM examinations, concerts or even just a piece of music the child really enjoys, can go a long way with regards to practise and motivation to strive for the best standards.
