About Isla
I am a violin tutor with over 10 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music, specializing in violin performance. My background spans solo recitals, chamber music, and orchestral playing, giving me a well-rounded perspective on musicianship. I focus strongly on building confident stage presence and preparing students for auditions with personalized strategies. Interpreting advanced repertoire is a core part of my teaching, helping students develop both technical skill and expressive depth. I have worked extensively with high school performers aiming to improve, conservatory students refining their craft, and competition entrants seeking to excel. My violin teaching approach centers on clear goal-setting and structured practice routines tailored to each student’s needs. We begin with daily warm-ups to build technique and focus. I guide students through technical etudes that strengthen finger agility and bow control. Expressive phrasing is a key focus—bringing music to life with emotion and nuance. Together, we work on stage presence, helping students feel confident and poised during performances.
I prepare students thoroughly for recitals, auditions, and ensemble playing by simulating real performance conditions. This builds readiness and reduces anxiety. Whether a student thrives on detailed plans, creative challenges, encouragement, or expressive outlets, I adapt my teaching to match their style. Each lesson balances discipline with artistic freedom, fostering both skill and passion.
