About Jack
I am a 21-year-old junior at Virginia Tech with a strong academic background in English. I earned A’s in English at both Bishop Ireton High School and Virginia Tech. During my senior year of high school, I also completed dual enrollment English coursework through Marymount University and NOVA.
I have two younger brothers, ages 11 and 17, which has given me experience communicating with younger students in a patient, supportive, and respectful way. Having recently been a middle and high school student myself, I understand many of the assignments, expectations, and challenges students face.
I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and coming to me for help. Rather than feeling like they are talking to an authority figure, I want them to see me as a supportive mentor who can relate to their experiences while still providing professional and helpful academic guidance.

Teaching Method & Techniques:
I begin by reviewing the material or prompt the student is working on so I can understand the assignment and its expectations. Then, I look at the student’s approach and work to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. I provide positive, constructive feedback and guide students toward a better understanding without discouraging them. No matter how much improvement is needed, my goal is to help students feel confident and capable of succeeding.
Typical Lesson Plan:
We will start by reviewing the student’s assignment or prompt and making sure they understand what is being asked. I will then review their work, identify areas for improvement, and guide them through revisions to produce their best work while strengthening their understanding of the material.
What Sets Me Apart:
I am a 21-year-old junior at Virginia Tech who was recently in the shoes of a high school student myself. I understand many of the challenges students face and what teachers expect from their work. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades in English and literature courses, but also to help them genuinely understand and learn the material.

My lessons are designed for students from 8th grade through junior year of high school who want additional support with English, literature, essays, research papers, writing assignments, improving annotations, and understanding teacher feedback.
