About Stephen
I am a Wallingford based history teacher offering tutor services to any secondary students studying history in the South Oxfordshire area.
I have been a GCSE examiner for the past two summer exam series for Pearson Edexcel Crime and Punishment and Early Elizabethan England
Particular expertise in the current GCSE Edexcel curriculum as follows;
Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918 - 1939
Crime and punishment through time, c1000-present
Superpower relations and the Cold War, 1941 - 1989
Early Elizabethan England, 1558 - 1588
I currently teach at the Oratory Preparatory School in Oxfordshire as Head of Humanities. Previously I was a pastoral lead at the Grange School in Aylesbury where I taught GCSE and A Level students towards their summer exams.
Particular expertise in the current A-Level curriculum as follows;
American Dream 1917 - 1989
Britain, gaining and losing an empire
I graduated the University of Plymouth with a BA (Hons) degree in American Studies. In preparation for my dissertation, focused on the aftermath of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, I was awarded a scholarship to the Roosevelt Study Centre in Middleburg, Holland.
Following this I completed a Master’s degree in Modern Austrian and German History at Cardiff University. My dissertation focused on the July Crisis of the run up to the First World War.
I have over 8 years teaching experience covering KS2, KS3, KS4 and KS5. I am able to offer assistance with basic historical concepts for younger students, help with coursework and drafting essays for older students and everything in between.

Complex events are broken down into clear, interconnected themes, ensuring students understand not just what happened, but why it happened and how different factors link together. Alongside content mastery, a significant focus is placed on exam practice: students regularly work through past paper questions, learn how to interpret command words, and practise structuring high-level answers under timed conditions
